I recently had a flight stream 210 installed in my plane and it doesn’t show ads-b data on my iPad. It will transfer flight plans to and from the 530 but doesn’t show traffic or weather on ForeFlight.  The avionics in the plane are 530w gtx327 with gdl88 and aspen PFD. I get weather and traffic on the 530 and aspen but when I get in the air the option for traffic in ForeFlight disappears. Any ideas??

 Thanks.

Ask the installer.
There’s 2 separate 210 connections required, one to the 530 for flight plans and one to the 88 for ASDB data. The 88 is also connected to the 530 and the Aspen.
You may not have any available connections.
For example I am using all the ports on my GTN so I don’t get ADSB on my GTN, but my installer told me this up front.

Ok so I got some info from the installer maybe y’all can help out…

The fs210 is connected to the 530 via rs-232 pin 54 and 55. (Pins 56 and 57 are both used)

It is connected to the gdl88 via rs-422 pins 32,33,34,35 (Pins 56,57,75 and 76 are all used)

And then obviously power (with 1a cb) and ground.

Is there a setup that needs to be done to enable traffic and weather on the iPad?
Thanks!!

I don’t remember doing anything on the iPad to enable traffic and weather, only connecting via Bluetooth, I have Garmin pilot.

You should boot up the 530 in configuration mode, and note the RS232 and 422 connection protocols. It’s been a while, but I think the RS422 is what Garmin calls the high speed bus.

I don’t know FF but GP has a devices page you can see if it sees the 210 properly. Obviously check the 210 is connected via Bluetooth first.

Ok I will try the setup page on the 530. Maybe the 422 pins on the gdl need to be enabled? It hooks up to Bluetooth and I have a trial version of the garmin pilot app and see where the 210 is connected via Bluetooth.

So I’m at the airport and don’t see any settings in the 530 for the gld88. But I did notice that the gdl88 software is on version 3.34 and it looks like the latest software is 3.43? Could this be the problem?

You didn't mention having the Flight Stream installation manual, so here's a copy. It may help with your troubleshooting.

Hopefully someone else here knows what data is passed between the 530W and the FS 210 through the 232 and 422 connections you've described. It sounds like your GDL is only connected to the 530W, maybe the FS 210 requires a direct connection to the GDL? I'm totally guessing, a smart person will be along shortly with better info. Maybe @Aerodon?

You said you recently had the 210 installed, was this by a Garmin dealer? I guess no. If I have a problem my dealer is my first choice for help.
SOP is to update all the software for all the Garmin devices, generally a Garmin requirement if you have any issues.

I would take it to a Garmin dealer who knows what they’re doing, have them update all the software and use their iPad to check the configuration and connections.

I don’t know if the trial version of GP has full functionality.

The 530 will not pass along the ADSB data, he previously mentioned the 210 is connected via RS422 to the 88.

My bad, I read the post with the pin-outs incorrectly.

I wonder if they properly configured the GDL-88 RS-422 Port 2? By default these will be disabled, so needs to be set to Connext Format 1 on the Input and Output for the port. You need the little software app running on a windows laptop and direct USB connection to the GDL 88 to configure it.

A follow up on this…
I got the plane to a garmin installer and all they had to do was activate the rs-422 port like suggested here. Thanks everyone for the help!!
