Lost medical - now in appeal position with FAA. Looking for a CFI at KDVT with 5 hours of M20C time in past 12 months to fly 2-4 hours a month to keep current and have some fun flying during this appeal process.   CFI would be PIC and could be listed on my insurance during this period.  A safety pilot would work as well with 300 hours, 25 hours retractable, 10 hours in make and model.  I have 1800 hours(1500 in this plane) and have owned my Mooney since 2001. Plane is fresh back from annual and ready to be flown. Appreciate your assistance on this.

Thank you, Mert Bean- 602-369-6410 - KDVT - hangar 3-2

Really sorry to hear that. I am too far away to help but I hope you get it back soon even with a special issuance and then promptly get a Basic Med since it can better insulate you from this in the future - although it too has flight barring conditions/restrictions. But its much easier to go by doctors opinions rather than waiting a minimum of 3 months to hear OKC agree with your doctor or worse be asked for more tests after waiting for months.

I easily meet your open pilot. I’m not sure that would work though, if you don’t have a medical.  Essentially I would have to be PIC and you would just be a passenger. I know a CFI with C model Mooney time, but it’s not recent.

+1 on this.   We're probably thinking of the same guy.  ;)

I couldn't come up with anybody else off the top of my head.   There are a lot of Mooneys at DVT, but I can't think of any M20C-specific instructors there.   I'm probably missing somebody.

Here's good luck to you @MooneyMert.  I just went through this and it took several years.  Scheduling tests during/soon after covid didn't help.

Don't delay with responses and any additional documents to the FAA.  Keep calling.  I kept getting the standard "We have your documents and it's under review" until one day I got someone else who actually looked at what was submitted and said something like "Well this doesn't look like an issue at all.  Call back in two weeks."  Was still a few months after that.

Have faith!
