Hello Friends. I have a 1991 Mooney M20J (MSE) / 1997 Missile Conversion.  I need to replace the Tachometer.  I want an original (analog?)  tachometer, not a digital.  Does anyone have any suggestion as to where I can get one?  I would like a new one, not a used one.  Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for any comments.   Respectfully - RonM

The available analog tachs are garbage. I would suggest a UMA tach. They look like an analog tach but they are electronic. I have had one for 15 years. The tach has been trouble free. The pickup tends to fall apart. So if you use the tach cable pickup, have your mechanic lock wire the connector on and it will be trouble free.

Ron,

We went around this circle recently.

Tal was looking for a replacement tachometer to go with his mechanical tacho generator.  I have a spare tachometer (same part number) but with a hall effect transducer on the magneto (I have a spare one of that too).  But he found one that came out of a Mooney with a tachogenerator.

So you need to get over some hurdles first:

1) accept that even if new is available it is going to be really expensive.

2) figure out if you have a hall effect or mechanical signal generator.

3) Is your fault with the signal generator or gauge?

Then replace,

Don
