MARZ Posted June 22, 2012 Report Posted June 22, 2012 I'm planning on it - last year I parked / camped in the vintage area - but would like to do the group thing - do you have to fly in the formation to be in the group at the north 40? BTW - My avitar was from a photographer from at Oshkosk I found by accident googling my N number.

Awful_Charlie Posted June 23, 2012 Report Posted June 23, 2012 I looked at coming over, and decided the trek through Scotland-Greenland-Canada and return was way outside my budget, so I've booked a schedule to Newark, and will come up from Caldwell NJ with a friend (albeit in a C172) Both of us are first timers, and for accomodation we're hoping to get a tent from Walmart, but will probably be there Sunday eve to sometime Weds, by which time we reckon that the thought of a real bed will start to prove irresistable! Also hoping to drop in and meet some colleages in Chicago for an evening before getting the United flight back on Saturday. Be great to meet some of the peeps from here if possible. Ben
panther1400 Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 I'm planning on going for the first time. Do they make or sell shirts that say something like, Oshkosh Virgin or Oshkosh Newbie, so you can get special treatment, better parking, or maybe a free ice cream cone??
jetdriven Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 Oh you get that initiation at the booth when you buy your tickets for the show...and parking...and non-optional EAA membership. Get ready, it was ~350$ just for that alone. But worth it.
29-0363 Posted June 25, 2012 Report Posted June 25, 2012 Can anyone on this list help me find/introduce me to a reputable travel agency in Canada? I want to make it to Oshkosh from Australia and the fare is far cheaper and more flexible if I buy it from Canada even though I start and finish my journey in Australia.

29-0363 Posted June 26, 2012 Report Posted June 26, 2012 Quote: 231flyer I'm wanting to buy a mileage based fare with One World Alliance (CX QF AA) that's called "Circle Pacific" which allows me to fly to ORD via SYD and HKG, then after Oshkosh to JFK, LAS, LAX, SYD. The rules for the fare are restrictive unless the ticket is issued from Canada, and the added bonus is the ticket costs a lot less as well. For example, I can buy a ticket in Australia for (round figures) AUD$5,000, and the same ticket purchased in New Zealand is NZD$5,000 which converted to AUD is $3,900, but the catch is I have to start the trip from NZ. If I can buy the ticket from Canada the restrictive ticketing rules do not apply and I can start the journey in any country I choose, so I can save something like 25%. If I travel up the pointy end in Business or First Class, the saving can be between 3 or 4K.
