Amelia Posted September 11, 2023 Report Posted September 11, 2023 Well, it has been a year. The overhaul is done! The initial break-in flight went beautifully. My first landing in a year went well. The new io550n hummed like a very energetic sewing machine, all the numbers looked great. Round the pattern at 3000’ and 200+ mph. Whee. Checked for leaks, found one, (thanks Continental) and on the next flyable day, found both Concord RG24-15s were totally dead. They had been on battery conditioner most of their year off, for no good reason, it seems. Now my plea. Does anyone want to sell me a couple of batteries? Or know where they might be had? It’s not funny anymore. One dang thing after another. 1 Quote
Amelia Posted September 11, 2023 Author Report Posted September 11, 2023 No joy either place. Wonder if there are any second-hand ones for now? Quote
KSMooniac Posted September 11, 2023 Report Posted September 11, 2023 How old are your current batteries, and what "conditioner" did you use? My first concord lasted 8-ish years before I pre-emptively replaced it. They have a warranty, but I'm not sure how long or the terms... If you can't find stock at the usual places, try my local shop Air Parts Company in Wichita. I visit there regularly and usually see a big pile of batteries in one room. They do ship, but do not have an e-commerce website so you'll have to call. (316) 943-2377 At first glance, google seems to show delivery by 9/18 or 9/20 for a few of the big sites, but perhaps that is not true if you try to actually buy one. Quote
MatthiasArnold Posted September 11, 2023 Report Posted September 11, 2023 I recently ordered a RG24-15 there: https://www.airpart.co.uk/parts?no=RG24-15M# Currently they have only one on stock. But they have multiple RG24-11M.. They are based in the UK though.. Matthias Quote

Apparently one battery charged up just fine. The other has a direct short. But if we manage to find a second Concorde, I may yet get to fly before the snow does. Quote
hypertech Posted September 11, 2023 Report Posted September 11, 2023 Skygeek shows them coming soon. There were no Concorde's to be had when I needed a battery so I put in a Gill 7243-16 in May. So far so good. Skygeek has the Gill ready to ship. You could put the Concorde you found and a Gill in and be ready to go. Quote
Amelia Posted September 11, 2023 Author Report Posted September 11, 2023 Hallelujah! That did the trick. The guy in Wichita had ONE. He put it on the truck and it should be in my corner of the swamp, NE NC, by Thursday! Thank you SO much. 4 Quote

I'm very spoiled having that retail outlet (with great prices too!) in my area so I can simply drive over and buy oil, filters, tires, hardware, etc right over the counter like an auto parts store. Last year I got an ELT as well. 1 Quote

My Dad is from just south of you, near Morehead City. Quote

I have been waiting for a half-dozen Champion oil filters for a year. Spruce keeps saying they are going to ship "any minute now". At least they haven't taken any money yet. Quote

I buy them over the counter at my local shop I listed above. 3 Quote

In theory, this should be no different than a single 24-volt battery because a 12-volt battery is just six 2-volt cells wired in series. Anyway, I have kept a BatteryMINDer purpose-built for Concorde on those batteries, but one of the batteries was DOA and the other marginal during my annual inspection. These batteries are (only) four or five years old. I have been a BatteryMINDer advocate, but it didn't save my batteries. Quote

I'll put Airparts third on my list of places to call since I'm losing patience with Spruce. Actually, I rather like being able to get someone on the phone -- sometimes e-commerce sites leave something to be desired. 1 Quote
