Has the Lasar guppy mouth closure, and we added adjustable cowl flaps a long time ago. I often have trouble keeping the hottest cylinder under 400 in climb out. It was worse when I was based in Arizona! Don't even want to mention what CHTs we hit in extended high-power, slow speed maneuvers simulating takeoff stalls. Those temps climb fast, but they sure do take a long time to cool back down. Enjoyed this thread. Going to the airport this weekend and will bring an extra tube of red silicone with me to re-do some of the older sealant. Can't hurt! I'm curious about your experience adding the adjustable cowl flaps - this is definitely on the to do list for me. Did you source the parts off a salvage bird? Quote

Did you source the parts off a salvage bird? Wow, it's been a long time and my IA/A&P did the work (probably the design too). Don't think it is based on the Mooney design. Piano hinges, a couple brackets, and I think he used a Y-vernier control cable for dual carbs like this to control the two flaps. https://www.mcfarlaneaviation.com/products/MCTV0005D048/ I plan to open the cowl this weekend to apply silicone. Can take some photos and dig around for the 337 if you're interested. 1 Quote
