Vacuum pump tube replacement

I have an M20J  1991 and lost the vacuum on the mechanical pump and when I switched to a back up pump, it flickered and then out. 

I found the backup pump had a compromised tube that I will replace.  

My question is are these individual systems or are they connected somehow? 

Next, the compromised tube is in the rear access near the battery. What is the best way to replace that tube? In the picture its the one with the duct tape on it.

So, that hose is not an aircraft hose, it is a boat hose. That hose probably goes to the bulkhead fitting on the firewall. You will need to take left side interior out.

I don’t know why they didn’t use aircraft hose, it isn’t expensive.

I think the duct tape was to fix a hole or prevent chafing, you can see the spring clip was used to secure the end of the hose. There’s also putty on the wall I assume todo the same, usually a grommet is used.

My 1994 M20J had the same installation. The hose Mooney used had a red inner layer and a black outer layer and no reinforcing cords. The section in the tailcone deteriorated and cracked which is undoubtably why yours has been patched. To replace it you have to remove the left interior side panels. The hole in the tailcone bulkhead is large because most of the wiring runs through it. Mooney used some sort of putty to seal it. I just used commercial duct seal.

I should have explained I replaced that little section to protect the open ends while doing the repairs
