I just closed on an M20J with the Aspen Evolution 2000 Max and a new Avidyne 440 and Im curious to hear from people with this combo the best bang for the buck when it comes to updating the databases.

For navigation/obstacles/etc. for the Avidyne, Jeppesen is the only option.   It's not bad, but it is the only option.

AFAIK, that's correct.

Seattle Avionics provides a database as well as georeferenced charts for an Evolution MFD for a very good price. But since the Evolution MFD is only for situational awareness. You need the Jepp database for the IFD if it is going to function as an IFR GPS.

It's similar to the Seattle offering for the Dynon panel. For IFR use, you need a database for the GPS.

BTW, I think you will like the combination. There's a bit of a learning curve if you are used to Garmin (get good training), but the only significant operational issue is that Aspen has not adopted the Green/Pink needle convention.
