Thank you in advance,

Another rookie question.

How can you tell if a 430 is Waas or not? Is there an easy way?

If I remember correctly, the non-WAAS unit uses an 8mb data card, but the WAAS unit uses 16mb. You might just be able to pop out the card to see.

Btw - if it was sold from the factory as WAAS, it will say "430W" right on the face of the unit. The units that were upgraded are the ones that you can't tell at a glance.

When setting up the flight plan….

If you can’t find any WAAS based approaches…

This might be a sign it is non-W….

We can always ask @Alan Fox he can sense the W and non-W as he approaches them… :)

PP logic only, I don’t have a Garmin navigator yet…

Best regards,

The only certain way to tell a 430 from a 430W is from the splash screen that is displayed on startup.

Well, geez - yeah, these work if you can turn it on :)

I thought we were talking about a radio in a box or something ..

I just look at the antenna , If it is a GA56 , it aint WAAS

This is why Alan is the go to guy for pre-flown avionics…

He doesn’t even have to get near the box to know what it is or isn’t…

Blurry picture, but this is what the splash screen should look like on a WAAS.

Definitely does not have that screen.

The 8mb non-WAAS card has a green label, the 16mb card has an orange label. They are not interchangeable.
