For everyone who wondered what Garmin's designation 'Xi' means...

Here's the official answer from Garmin:

"Xi doesn't have a specific meaning it simply a way to identify the unit. "

Well, at least I was correct that it doesn't mean eXtremely inexpensive ;)

It must have something to do with their newer generation of faster processing units: G1000NXi, G500 TXi, GTN 750Xi, etc, etc, etc

I wonder if they're working on a G3Xi.

I thought it might have something to do with the 14th letter of the Greek alphabet, but I guess not.

I dropped my plane off at an avionics shop a couple days ago and they mentioned a G4X.

But your panel's already perfect!

I had my pitch servo go bad so I've been hand flying it the last couple months while I was waiting for Garmin to send one. My avionics installed a new one 3 days ago, and 2 days ago I got a call saying that the servo I received was part of a bad batch that has an SB on it. The panel is perfect, but at this moment not completely perfectly functional. Still can't complain compared to the old panel it replaced.

there has been a LOT of service bulletins on the GSA 28 servos - with last one just out on 2/7 requiring replacement of new servos shipped between Sept 21 and Jan 2022. Garmin is blaming parts availability but some appear to be more manufacturing defects.

Anyway i have 4 of these new servo’s just installed in mine and haven’t yet confirmed if my installation completion will be delayed further for this.

Good thing though Garmin is paying for re-installation along with providing new servos.

I happened to see your plane pulled apart when I was visiting a certain undisclosed location -- hope you don't have any delays!

I am in a similar position to you Paul, although mine are confirmed that the servo serial numbers are listed in the SB recall. It was planned I would be taking delivery of my Mooney possibly at the end of next week and was advised yesterday the new servos will be delivered in 3 weeks.

As I haven't flown my Mooney in months and my installer needs the hangar space, I've opted to leave the current servos in and take the risk none of the four fitted will fail. With delivery times being blown out recently, who knows when the servos will finally arrive.  After I've taken delivery, my installer will call to advise when all servos have arrived and arrange a date for me to return so he can perform the replacements.

My favourite saying these days, "It is what it is!"

Apologies to Skip for the thread drift.

Maybe paying homage to the lifetime leader of the country where most of what we buy comes from?
