MMsuper21 Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 Shops are busy, mechanics are unfortunately very human. Busy humans tend to make mistakes more often. I am still learning, I watch my mechanic do the work when I can, if not he always takes pictures for me and I double check the work. Whatever I can as novice, at least if everything is attached and no extras in the engine bay. I am doing more myself as I ascent in the plane ownership ranks. It’s personal interest coupled with safety.
dylanac Posted February 10, 2022 Report Posted February 10, 2022 I do just about everything myself except the annual. I'll get that liability in someone else's hands. Recently rewired all the avionics, from the buss bar up. I saw the shoddy work that was supposedly performed by an "avionics shop" before and didn't want a $20k bill for trash.
steingar Posted February 10, 2022 Report Posted February 10, 2022 I do what I can do. I suck at wrenching, though airplanes are way easier than bikes or cars. I can't do the assist annual thing, can't blame the mechanics any. Were I a mechanic I don't think I'd want pilots creeping around my shop.
