Hello Mooniacs,

About a year ago I replaced my trusty GPS Map 695 with an Aera 760. The 695 would no longer properly display approaches loaded into my GTN650. The Aera solved this problem. My neglected 695 sat for a year and lost all charge. Now, with a newly purchased light sport (an Atec Zephyr) the GPS 695 would be quite useful!

Plugging it in it started right up but showed "no battery" and the time/date was incorrect. Fortunately I found the thread below and managed to get the battery detected:

After charging for half a day, restarting, the time is now correct but the date is completely off (May 2002!). I found some other posts about similar issues with Garmin GPSs that recommend updating the software + a hard reset. As best I can tell on the Fly Garmin site there is no update, and I cannot reset the unit following the instructions in the manual which I don't think are clearly stated (hold "clear", hold "start" hold "zoom out"). With unit on nothing happens. Is this a startup procedure?

The date/time issue seems to be an internal small rechargeable battery that has gone flat. Long charging may fix it. I'm surprised that the time is fixed but not the date. I though all of this info came from GPS signals., so why one and not the other?

Any other ideas about getting the date to be correct?

Thanks!

Peter
