Teddsgotwings Posted October 6, 2021 Report Posted October 6, 2021 (edited) Project: Dual gi-275 install + GNC255 install Its not complete yet but it’s the first time I’ve seen the panel since I dropped it off June 9th. It’s not a full glass panel but I’m pretty excited about it. Any feedback is welcomed. Edited October 6, 2021 by Teddsgotwings 1 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted October 6, 2021 Report Posted October 6, 2021 Not seen it in 4 months? Avionics work should not take 4 weeks. Quote

Between the parts back ups and some staffing issues at the shop it has taken (much) longer than expected. My annual has lapsed as well so its going in for that at end of week and then it'll be good to go. Quote
David Lloyd Posted October 6, 2021 Report Posted October 6, 2021 Is that a GNX375? Is the 375 and 255 both talking to your 275s? And your autopilot? You're gonna love the new stuff. Quote

You're gonna love the new stuff. It is indeed a GNX375. They are in fact all talking to each other now as well as the Century AP! I'm very excited to get it back and work on my instrument rating. By the looks of it you've got a very similar setup! Im also a bit nervous as to the learning curve with all of these new functions but I figure ill just hook up and external battery at my tie down and play around with it all for an hour or two in order to familiarize myself with it all. Any tips are appreciated! Edited October 6, 2021 by Teddsgotwings Quote

It was certainly frustrating. Hopefully your install is done now and you can enjoy some of that amazing fall foliage from the sky up in New England. Im originally from Boston, have a house on Wentworth in Wolfeboro, and spent 6 years (college & work) in Burlington, VT. I miss it out there. Edited October 6, 2021 by Teddsgotwings Quote
dzeleski Posted October 6, 2021 Report Posted October 6, 2021 Any shop that is taking your plane in without all components sitting on the shelf is doing it wrong. Thats a REAL long time for this project. I would not be as patient personally, its unacceptable. Quote

It was just convenient for me at that time. They had told me they were in the midst of a few other projects but would start mine within a few weeks. The parts delay was out of their hands as was the employee issues. Was it annoying? Absolutely. Do I wish it was faster. 100% Would I want to harass them to get it done quick and risk some potential errors on the install? Absolutely not. It tried my patience but I know that the end result will be top notch. Im just thankful they're working. These guys actually we're working on the Virgin Galactic space ship and mother ship as well. They're an A+ shop without a doubt. It's just a trying time in their industry as well as many others. Quote
David Lloyd Posted October 6, 2021 Report Posted October 6, 2021 Timewise, shop ran over, promised 4 weeks, tuned into 6. Had some autopilot stuff going on. For the most part, once you have it set up the way you want, it is just a matter of watching it work and just occasionally turning a knob. You will probably want to show the nav and glideslope info on the ADI, also choose from wind speed and direction (shown) or groundspeed or true airspeed on the ADI in the lower left. Groundspeed is usually shown on the GPS, you only look at true airspeed every now and then, also calculated on the GPS. I swear, I turn the knob for the barometric the wrong direction every time. Every time! On the HSI, tap CDI and it will switch to your 255 or your 375. Oh, what neat stuff. For training, Fly_M20R (Chris K) has made a number of video in his Mooney highlighting the GI275s in his panel. Find and watch them all. A couple, several times. Probably the most difficult thing to train is to quit depending on your steam gauges. In order to wean myself off, I used a couple strips of 2" wide painters tape stuck over the airspeed, T&B, altimeter and VSI. 500+ hours with glass, I still have to say the airspeed is still difficult. You have to look at it and read it versus glancing at the position of a needle, it isn't natural. You have to force yourself to learn. 2 Quote

I saw someone on here had a line that says "the longer I have my plane, the newer it gets." That line is resonating with me at the moment seeing all these modern devices in this middle aged plane. 1 Quote

Id rather schedule a legit appointment for someone to be working on my project 100% of their time until its done. 41 minutes ago, mike261 said: they had the components. they lost staff, and it didnt return. a bad unit had to come out and took a long time to get a replacement. up here in the northeast, everything is short staffed, from restaurants to doctors offices. patience is required. So this shop has no backup units on the shelf for these cases? Nah this excuse about places being short staffed is nonsense, its been this way for 2 years now. Schedule accordingly, if you are short staffed push projects back until current ones are done. We are paying five to six figures for this work. I dont have time to deal with bullshit and time is my only resource I dont get more of. My panel was to be re done February of this year, 1 week before I was supposed to drop it off I got a call saying they are behind and gave me a new date. Annoying? Yes, but I appreciate the honesty instead of just taking my plane and sitting on it. Just about 4 weeks later my plane went in and was late getting back to me by 4 days due to an issue with the trim servo. Each morning I got a call with an update on that problem until it was solved.
