Yes washing can be very effective and if you really want to be anal, filter it through a coffee filter.

GE would have us do that and send them the coffee filter.

I used to think filter magnets were hokum until I saw them collect ultra fine metal particles that were so fine they felt like grease

They are basically cavity drains and serve no purpose normally. Uses a regular crush gasket.

They’re just drain plugs, they require MS35769-11 or AN900-10 gaskets.
