oil cooler overhaul and engine mount inspection recommendations

getting some final things lined up for my new IO390 we are installing in my J.  some have suggested getting the oil cooler overhauled, along with the engine mount inspected.  Ill probably do both.  do you have a shop you would recommend for either?  Was leaning with AWI for the mount, but was hoping to fins something closer to north idaho (driving distance, instead of crating and shipping).  oil cooler i was thinking Pacific oil cooler service...

No, they didn’t. I don’t even know if that’s approved. I’d be concerned it would alter the heat transfer characteristics.

I added the logic...

If the front end is going to be new...

Get everything on the same schedule...

Mostly for easing the memory expense of how old each piece is...

So everything fire wall forward got removed, reviewed, or tested, or painted or OH’d.... or replaced...

Some things in the overall project expense aren’t that big...

My first engine mount (back in the day) ended up breaking welds... and had scratched paint...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

Best regards,

PO bought a new oil cooler when they did the A3B6 conversion, I figured it was different and required. When I overhauled engine I just flushed the oil cooler and cleaned the fins of debris since it wasn’t original and not that old.

+1 note on any coating for the oil coolers...

These things are kind of precision devices... built one way for a reason...

Paints and coatings may affect the ability to remove heat...

So... know what is supposed to be there before getting something added that you may not want...

There may be some specialized coating that don’t cause issues or even improve the heat transfer...

Just be aware, there may be things that are done for experimental planes that aren’t for the certified crowd...

PP thoughts only, just things to keep an eye on...

For the engine mount, strip the paint, and examine it carefully for any abrasion damage.  If there is no damage have it Magnaflux tested for any cracks, if there are no cracks, repainted it.  If there are cracks you need someone to weld it.
