thomas1142 Posted September 3, 2020 Report Posted September 3, 2020 Let me clear, the actual unit still worked using the buttons, but the touch function would not work. This issue started about 3 months after installation. It would work on the ground, about 1hour in the air, then freeze. On a couple of occasions it rebooted, but still would not work properly. Just had the unit replaced today, about 10 minutes after takeoff it froze. The shop was closing so we headed home. It never recovered. Any ideas? 1 1 Quote
carusoam Posted September 4, 2020 Report Posted September 4, 2020 great report Thomas... For big G device issues... The guy on the internet to contact is Trek Lawler... Often found at BT... He only has so much skill to be everywhere at one time.... @TrekLawler unfortunately, he picked there... not his fault... so try not to hold it against him... It is a serious issue, so find their 1 800 if so inclined... Best regards, -a- Quote

Davidv Posted September 4, 2020 Report Posted September 4, 2020 I’ve spoken with tech support, there definitely is a number to call. However, I’m sure it will be your installer who actually needs to fix the issue. I’m no avionics tech, but with it happening again on a new unit could it be something else in your plane that’s interfacing with it? Quote
Unit74 Posted September 7, 2020 Report Posted September 7, 2020 Trek and a couple other Garmin techs browse there. One handle called Garmin Support is used by at least two of them that I know. Trek answers under his own name. He is a supervisor. Quote
thomas1142 Posted September 7, 2020 Author Report Posted September 7, 2020 Haven’t had the opportunity to speak with anyone this holiday weekend. An electrical engineer friend of mine said that it is probably a grounding issue. He proceeded to tell me how touch screens work, and lost me right after “the way they work is....”. Tomorrow is another day. 1 Quote
chriscalandro Posted September 8, 2020 Report Posted September 8, 2020 I believe the g3x uses IR touch and would probably not be affected by a ground issue. Quote

If you call their support number there is an option now for "Non-Dealer Support", I believe it is "Option 5", no joking. Edited September 8, 2020 by Baker Avionics Added info 1 Quote
