Hello everyone! I never knew this website existed, although my late husband, the pilot of the above-mentioned Mooney, was probably on here from time to time. His name was Christopher Quinn and he passed away very unexpectedly in February at age 52. Tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. his beloved N745S will be auctioned in Nashville by Colson Auctions. http://www.colsonauctions.com/  The auction house has advertised, etc., but Mooneys aren’t just any regular airplanes; I can’t see it selling for even close to what it’s worth. But I’d be OK with that, and so would our children, if we knew it was going to someone who would truly appreciate it for what it is as Chris certainly did. Anyway, this is the link to the auction.

I thought it might be of interest to this group especially. If you knew Chris, I’d love to hear from you! F0-AD3-B22-A0-DC-4-F66-A78-E-6-D0485-C07

@Ali Quinn, the link did not come through, nor did the name of the auction house.

I hope it works out well for you. Settling your husband's estate cannot be an easy task. Please don't feel overwhelmed.

Welcome aboard Ali!

1) Sorry to hear about Christopher’s fate...

2) I have run a search on his name, but have not found it yet...

3) That’s OK, many people around here have listed there plane’s name instead of their own name...  :)

4) There are a few people around here currently that are looking for a plane like yours...

5) If you want... you can edit your title and include the words for sale...

6) I copied a better link to help people find the plane...

7) MS is a pretty friendly pace... if you have any questions... feel free to ask...

8) Good luck with the Auction...

Good Mooneys seem to last forever... :)

Best regards,

-a-

Heads up to... (A list of people that may still be looking for a Mooney around here....)

Condolences Ali Quinn for your loss. I saw your post just a little too late tonight. The Mooney is the airplane I have always wanted to own. Just checking to see if the auction sold your late husbands plane. If so, all the best to you and your family. If not, please send me a message and perhaps I can purchase it.

Welcome aboard, Fleiger...

I tried to find out the answer by searching their site... but came up empty handed...

Lets see if @Ali Quinn will be coming back...

The Quinn bird is going to make a nice Mooney for somebody...

PP thoughts only, not a mechanic...

Best regards,

N745S

When I first saw this post, I briefly considered looking (I live in western TN)  but there wasn't much time before the auction.  However, I did a registration search and a different owner comes up.  It shows the last action in 2009, registration cancellation in 2014, and that it was subsequently deregistered.  Not what I expected to see.

Hello all! I apologize for not responding sooner. I’m not the greatest at handling all this stuff and the past few days have been tough on my nerves. Watching the Mooney being sold is like seeing Chris leave all over again since it was his greatest pride and joy to own and to fly.

As far as the auction went, yes, it sold. I’m assuming the buyer had the required cash (not even sure what it sold for). I will be checking in with the auction company today to get details. If I should hear anything about a problem getting payment or anything like that (I don’t anticipate this being the case), I will of course let you know here.

Chris bought it fair and square (I think bill of sale is somewhere in the attached papers), but he never registered it in his own name. Maybe tax avoidance? I don’t know...I never knew he hadn’t registered it until recently. This is strange to me because he was always so good about being sure our other taxes were paid. Perhaps it was more complicated than that?

I would have advertised the auction on this page had I known it existed, but up until the day before the auction, I was completely unaware. Which is sad because, as I mentioned in a prior post, I would have loved for a true Mooney lover to end up with it.

Thanks for being so kind and supportive everyone!

Thank you for the follow up information Ali! Interesting indeed about the registration, but a moot point at the moment. Again, condolences to you and your family for your loss. Peace be with you and with Chris.

The registration is a $5 technical piece of paper... that adds very little weight to the plane...

Always good to have all ducks in a row...

But, if this duck got left out... it would take a long time for anyone to figure out...

Until recently, the FAA had no way of knowing... it wasn’t in the database...

Newer regulations require an update for the registration every five years or so...

The FAA sends the registered owner a card in the mail...

Logs are the important details to go with the sale of a plane...

So... If Christopher had them organized... he really took care of the important paper work...

The new owner will be looking forward to getting a proper bill of sale, registering the plane with the FAA... picking up some insurance and getting transition training...

If there is anything left that the old owner can do to complete the transaction any more...   I don’t know about it...

But The Mooney World does have a support structure that can often be of service... Somebody might know something that has been here before...

I can invite @mike_elliott to the conversation here...  Mike is a Mooney instructor that may have knowledge of following up on these kinds of details...

Best regards,

I have to admit I am at a loss what would have to be done at this point for the new owner to get it registered with the FAA, but perhaps the auction company is versed in selling planes and will know how to assist the new owner.
