Joe,

do you have a chromed tail pipe?

Did it turn purplish?

My plane doesn’t have a shiny enough surface to see a heat affected zone... (HAZ)

Got a pic?

Best regards,

What’s the best way to remove the heat discoloring from your exhaust pipe? Is it even possible?

A serious dose of sand paper and polishing compound will make it look like chrome. It will discolor again fairly soon.

Actually, if you polished the tail pipe, it would probably look good for a while. If I were to do it, I would find someone with a powerful glass bead blaster. Remove the pipe and bead blast it till it is a dull grey inside and out (inside is more important to me) Then hit it with 800 grit wet paper till all the sanding marks are even, then spend a few hours of quality time with a buffing wheel with red rouge. Then hit it with Flitz. You will have the nicest pipe on MooneySpace!

Mine was really nice. Looked like the spinner. After a few years and line service scratching it, looks like anyone else’s spinner.

Polish, polish and more polish.  The stacks on a PT-6 can be kept shiny, so can your tailpipe if you put in the effort.

How long did that take?

Looks great BTW.

I love to polish metal, a fetish I’ve had sense I was a child.

Thanks! Roughly 7 weeks.
