Just got back from Oshkosh and decided to take Quiet Technologies up on their 30 day trail offer on the Halo headsets, after having read good things about them on the RV/VANs forums.  Conclusion: WOW!  Great sound quality, great mic, very good noise attenuation, and super comfortable.  With my Bose X I would get a headache after 4hrs...not with the Halos.  In conclusion, I am ordering another pair for the wife and the Bose are already up on ebay.   I should get back  1/10-2/10AMU in the deal as the Halos are $350 each!  Recommend you give them a try.

BTW - Meet the owner of QT...he is an Audiologist and vintage Mooney owner...very nice guy.

Add me to list of Halo fans on the site.  I just hate the feeling of the ear cups on the side of my face when it's hot outside.  I switched to the Halos about a year ago.  I haven't worn my Bose X since I purchased the Halo.

The 30 day trial is a no brainer for $359.

Oh, definitely, the QT headset is the best.  I bought one for my wife and promptly stole it.  Had to get another for her to use.  Now I'm planning on getting a 3rd set.  I can wear any hat I want and they are much more comfortable for me than the other headsets I've used.  If I had hair, I would also like the fact that it doesn't mess up your hair.

Inserting them always takes longer than putting on traditional headsets but I have found that if I do it just a certain way they go in quickly and without a problem.  It took me a few tries and I started paying attention to what happened when I did it this way or that way and eventually found the right way.

Glad to hear some of you have had the Halos for a while now, as my only concern with them as durability since they are so light and small.  Thanks for the tip on keeping the plugs warm in the winter...A

I've used the Halo headsets for over 4 years now and I wouldn't use anything else.  Light and quiet, you hardly know you're wearing them. Since I didn't care for the old style earplug peices the came with the Halo (yellow EAR type), I just bought a small hole punch to make my own replacement ear pieces out of whatever style earplug I like.  Just pull the old ones off and re-use the plastic tube with the new plug.

BTW, I was going to trade my david clark with a friend who had just bought a new halo since he wasn't sure about having something in his ear.. I would have loved to do so, but after he took a 2 hr flight from houston to dallas, he said "no way!.. I'm keeeping the Halo".

My wife and I were looking at these for her, but we don't see anywhere you can hook an mp3 player to it.  Without a music port, that is a deal killer for her.  Am I missing something?

I have had a set of the Halos for about 3 years now and I agree, they're great. I don't use them much anymore as I switched to a JH Audio in-ear with a custom mold, but I still have pax who use the Halos and like them. And I definitely agree that the owner is a nice guy, but didn't know he had a Mooney - thought he was flying a Cub.

The first thing I did after I signed the papers on my plane last year was to purchase a Halo. The comfort level is almost indescribable. Weighing in at one ounce, I can now fly for hours without knowing they are there and the quality of XM radio coming through the intercom is very good. After my first flight wearing them I immediately ordered a pair for my wife.

As others have said here, there's no going back to the old head-vice.

These were also on Aviation Consumer's gear of the year list two months ago.

The JH audio custom in ear monitors are awesome! It is a shame they are no longer making them for aviation. I have tried Bose A20 and other premium headsets, but nothing compares. Once you get good quality custom mold in ear monitors you will never go back to traditional headsets.Cool

I bought myself some Halo's for Christmas last year, and love them! Putting them on takes a little getting used to, but wearing them is a pleasure. No more headaches . . . No cold-weather issues, either, but I use the white silicone plugs rather than the yellow foam ones. YMMV.

The only problem I have is using the cellphone to call for clearance--can't just shove it under the earcup and use both hands for doing things. But the need for in-cockpit cell phone calls is pretty infrequent.

Have not loaned them to my wife--she is happy with her David Clamps. The Halos play music pretty well using the music input in the intercom. Lightweight, comfortable, no interference with sunglasses, easy to change between sunglasses and regular glasses when entering/leaving clouds. Just need to clean the white plugs from time to time. And they remind me when it's time to clean my ears, too. :-)

Hank brought out a point that I forgot - being able to wear any pair of sunglasses you like, thick temples or thin.

As for placing the foam in my ears, I roll them up into a little cylinder, wet them and then they slide right in only to expand in within 20 seconds.

Nice to hear from you Phil. I'm trying to get the rest of the flying world to try them but for some reason most people insist that on their current head clamps are the only solution.

Gary,

Any self respecting football coach will never use an in ear style headset.  There are two reasons.  (1) the headset manufacturer can't write his logo large enough to be seen by anyone.  (2) it won't look very cool slamming a set of earplugs to the ground when an important play has disintegrated in front of you.
