John Pleisse Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Very sad..God rest his soul. You have to love the media. Absolute insult to his passing, reporting a previous gear-up in the same report as this final accident. Is this three now in a fewer number of months, all fatals? Quote
Piloto Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Here is another Mooney in a southern California crash http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/07/off-duty-police-officers-killed-plane-crash-arizona.html It appears that it happened on take off. Sad about this couple that were in the prime of their life. José Quote

John Pleisse Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Quote: fantom Sad, but they very well may be related. The gear up was earlier this year, and a friend of mine who lives and keeps his plane just outside of Augusta is hearing stories about the prop spinning off the plane, and talk about substandard repair work. John Pleisse Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 My Charlotte client WSOC-TV offered standard and very even reporting with no smoking guns. Looks like a 252 or a Rocket. Apparently a very well liked guy. http://www.wsoctv.com/video/28591036/index.html Quote

fantom Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 Several years ago I was shopping for lots either at Lake Norman Airpark, or very close by on Lake Norman. I'm certain I met the guy in his property investor role, but don't recall anything special about him. Sad ending to a good plane and a fine man. Quote
John Pleisse Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 In the news peice Paul, one witness claims to have seen a peice of metal fly off. If this is true, you gotta wonder. Quote
jelswick Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 There do seem to be a lot of these lately. Scary. In reading NTSB reports, I see a lot of 500-1500 hour pilots making me think this might be our greatest risk period of complacency. I'm at almost 800 and I try to remind myself of this fact in the stats all of the time. I love flight and that privelege and hope I'm never in those stats. At least in analyzing my own history, I get comfortable that I'm very comfortable in flying now and try to remind myself every pre-flight that not sumping tanks is not an option because it takes something as simple as that to bring down a great pilot and maybe even his/her family. I know a lot of bozo pilots that I'm surprised don't end up in the stats, but as soon as we think we're better than the average pilot population, we risk being in the next report. Hope this approach works to keep me and my family out of them... Quote
David Mazer Posted July 19, 2011 Report Posted July 19, 2011 The plane was a 79 231/Rocket. I briefly looked at it in 2006 as it was for sale at that time. Ultimately, I bought his other 86 252/Rocket. I can also tell you at that time, his maintenance was performed by A&Ps employed by him at his airport at Lake Norman. Quote

FloridaMan Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 The Ferry pilot commented on the linked article and says the plane sat for months and that he was supposed to install a new prop, but had not done it yet. Another commenter had to be a douchebag and made some statement about doctors killing themselves in airplanes. Quote

There are some really terrible people with computers out there. Quote

I think the anonymity of the internet with fake names on the internet allows people to take on personna, avatar as they say, that may allow them to take out suppressed aggression or frustration from the rest of their lives in inappropriate ways elsewhere. scottfromiowa Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 O.K, Am I missing something? On the Idaho thread Dave made the Dr. reference...and gets called a derogatory word for using the reference? Then we are talking about people on internet being civil? The Beech V-tail had an alarming rate of mid-air break-ups prior to strenghening. Aviation Consumer high-lighted and Beech denied. The Beech was and is a beautiful Expensive aircraft that was considered "the best" and many Dr.s bought them. A Mooney is also a beautiful "best" aircraft that has recently been crashing in numbers/frequency that is alarming...I believe that Dave's reference didn't warrant the reply in this link. I don't know how someone can call someone something used to clean a vagina and NOT be HIT by the moderator. NOT GOOD! That's just me... Quote

John Pleisse Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 Was just snooping around and I said to myself.....Gee...with a screen name like "Mazerbase" his airplane better be entirely cooler than his screen name. It is...nice ride. Quote
David Mazer Posted July 21, 2011 Report Posted July 21, 2011 The plane is way cooler than my ability to come up with catchy moniquers. Nat exactly the area in which I excel, if indeed I excel in any. Any way, my wife had to come up with that since I'm not even that good. Quote
eldeano Posted July 22, 2011 Report Posted July 22, 2011 Wow! How sad. All of this is so tragic! The first story on the good Doctor seemed to be fairly heartless and amateurish in my opinion, but I am no expert. Very sad regardless. Also the couple in Winslow. I have flown in and out of there a few times, a fun little place. Sorry to here of two people serving their communities dying in such a tragic manor. All though it is of little consolation, hopefully we will be able to learn something from these investigations. My heart goes out to their families, and even there airport communities, as these losses can be especially difficult to deal with. Quote
