Parker_Woodruff Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Picking up my new plane tomorrow from Don Maxwell. 1987 Mooney M20K (252) N252BH Thanks to Ken Reed for giving it a good shakedown out in AZ for me. I still haven't seen the plane in person and won't until tomorrow! Quote
fantom Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Extremely sweet, Parker. Don't you need to fly it down to Ft. Lauderdale this weekend? If not, I have to find an excuse to fly up to Tampa. I hope you have a hanger for that beauty. You now own one of the lowest hour 252's in existence, and thanks to Don Maxwell, a good PPI, all squawks being fixed, and a reasonable seller, you got a killer deal. Well done! Quote
MooneyMitch Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Congratulations Parker. The 252, my other favorite Mooney. Looks great and lots of fun. Quote
John Pleisse Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Looks like an extremely low time Honey......Niesch!!! \ Quote
DaV8or Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Nice! Looks like a really clean plane. Having said that. I'm sure the avionics shop and Aero Comfort will be getting a call... Congratulations! Quote
DaV8or Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Oh yeah, I noticed you changed your avatar on the AOPA boards, what about here? Quote
N33GG Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 A real beauty Parker...CONGRATS!!! Say hi to Don for me. Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted June 16, 2011 Author Report Posted June 16, 2011 @ Fantom - Gary, I'll be flying back to FL Monday. I'm sure I'll be down to Ft. Lauderdale within a week. It's going back to TX within 3 weeks to sit so I don't get nailed by the FL use tax (still a TX resident) @JimR - Useful is less than 850lbs. There is room for improvement as-is. But I would like to do the Encore conversion at some point which would put it over 1000 lbs useful @Dav8or - In time. Waiting till Oshkosh is over before I make any decisions...might even wait till AOPA expo is over. @N6719N - Will do... Quote
skyking Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Parker: very nice.. thats a hunny you got there. Enjoy it and fly safe. Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Consider the MT prop... it would do *very* nicely on a K, especially one with a metal 3-blade prop. Mine was 11 lbs lighter than my original 2-blade McCauley, and I think they're ~25 lbs lighter than a metal 3-blade...maybe more. My only complaint is that they seem to be optimized for lower RPMs whereas I'd rather run higher RPMs while LOP at cruise altitude. With a K that concern is moot since you can just run more MP at lower RPM and keep the power up. Quote
1964-M20E Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 you will really like the large JPI display but it needs to be moved to the left of the stormscope and the #2Nav CDI moved to the blank spot above, that's what I did and it greatly improves the scan. I watch the engine monitor alot...... i.e. CHT Quote
Cruiser Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 This is really me, I am not 1964-M20E........ sorry. you will really like the large JPI display but it needs to be moved to the left of the stormscope and the #2Nav CDI moved to the blank spot above, that's what I did and it greatly improves the scan. I watch the engine monitor alot...... i.e. CHT Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted June 16, 2011 Author Report Posted June 16, 2011 @ Cruiser - I've got some plans for that, but will probably handle a lot of stuff all at once. Probably make the whole panel black at the same time. Quote
Skywarrior Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Parker - My panel is all-white (well, UV-faded to a light beige). I really love that color in the cockpit. Jus' sayin' Chuck M. Quote
Cruiser Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 A black panel makes a nice background for the Aspen Evolution 2000 combined Pro PFD and 1000 MFD. Quote
FlyFstr Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Congratulations....a very sweet looking machine! Quote
1964-M20E Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Cruiser nice comments I will not complain but just ask next time. Maybe we can swap planes as well. :-))) Quote
FlyDave Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 Hey Parker - NICE LOOKING AIRPLANE!!! I'll bet you're just itchin' to fly her....You're gonna have a BLAST!!!! Quote
Cruiser Posted June 16, 2011 Report Posted June 16, 2011 I've been thinking about making a trip to visit New Orleans. Quote
David Mazer Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Parker, I have the lighter panel and really prefer it. It makes the entire cockpit lighter and feel more open. Try it awhile before you change it. Quote
Magnum Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 +1 IMHO it is easier for the eyes to focus on the instruments with the lighter panel. Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 I have a black panel in my '77, and if/when I re-do everything for a PFD and modern engine monitor I plan to start from scratch and go with a light tan panel to match my interior. Quote
Bennett Posted June 17, 2011 Report Posted June 17, 2011 Best of luck with your new aircraft. Very nice clean Mooney. Opinion: I've had light colored, and black panels in various aircraft, and while black is easy to touch up, light colors open up the feel of the airplane, and make the instruments just a tad more distinctive in the scan. I have arranged for the fabrication of all new panels for my current avionics project, and they will be sandstone - a light tan color. Quote
