DaV8or Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 As many here know, I'm rebuilding my panel on my '66 F. The one area I'm not to sure about what to do is fixing the glare shield. I have the LASAR 201 windshield and there is sort of wonky aluminum cover over the avionics. Snapped onto the edge is what I think is the original (?) floppy vinyl glareshield. It doesn't fit the windshield very well and it's kind of weak. I'd like to have something more substantial and ultimately, that I can put either an electro-luminescent strip, or LED strip for illumination. What has anybody else done? What is legal for me to do? I could easily fabricate a better glareshield and get it upholstered. Is this a job for an interior shop? Thanks for the help. Quote
THASE Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 LED strip is the way to go. Simple to install and it works great with the rheostat. I used a blue strip and love the contrast. Quote
eldeano Posted April 21, 2011 Report Posted April 21, 2011 As I understand it that is something you can do by yourself as long as the materials you use are compliant with flame retardant standards. FAR 23.853 You may check with some of your local custom auto interior shops with good reps as I found most of them have done some aircraft work and are familiar with these standards, also they will supply you with documentation, all for much less then aircraft interior shops.
