Anyone on here had to replace the locks and key on a J model ?

Currently using same key for baggage compartment and door.

My baggage compartment lock is starting to act so I would like to change both before being lock out !!

Thanks

Thanks ! are these universal door locks and would work on a J ?

I guess I am not used to finding aviation parts being so easy.

I didn't have a door key so I removed my baggage lock and took it to a lock smith and he made a key for $5.  It was fairly simple to remove the lock and I would think a locksmith could rebuild it if needed.  My expirence with trouble locks is to place a drop of oil in the key hole then work the key back and forth which loosen the lock up and then it works fine.

Responding to a similar problem on my '80J, I opted for Medco locks. We replaced both the baggage-door and mai- door locks. I can guarantee that nobody will be able to use a Cessna,  Piper, or other Mooney key to open either lock.  You can get two locks with the same keys.

Medcos aren't cheap, but they are significantly more secure than the originals.

I have always felt aircraft door locks are to keep "honest people honest" in that if someone wants in...they are getting in.  I replaced my original locks with Mooney locks and they were NOT expensive...like $20.  MEDCO sounds a LOT better than original, but OEM works and a lot less $.  Additional keys can be cut at hardware store.  Good luck,

As Scott said. The Medco locks are secure from someone just having a matching key. Thing is that someone who really wants in will hammer a screwdriver through the door skin next to the lock to pry it out and then you have more real damage to deal with.
