ArtVandelay Posted June 21, 2017 Report Posted June 21, 2017 Question: Can I charge my battery through the external power port in the fuselage? Yes, you might have to close the relay with a battery, before you attach the charger (chargers won't turn on if they don't sense a battery) and I would not leave it unattended. Quote
DonMuncy Posted June 21, 2017 Report Posted June 21, 2017 As always in aviation; it depends. Generally, no. The power needed to hold the relay in (allowing juice to flow) is quite a bit higher than you would likely want to charge your battery. Most chargers, like Battery Minder, won't energize that relay. carusoam Posted June 22, 2017 Report Posted June 22, 2017 Using the ground power port is a bad idea because of the requirement for power to open a relay. New style charging systems don't send power with out sensing the polarity first. Some Smart mooniacs have moved onto a proper BatteryMinder set up and have the cord come out to where the door for the ground power goes... That's the short version. Go ahead and read Lance's lists for the whole story. Search works wonders. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
