Does a diagram exist of the defrost system for the j/k?

Time to limber-up and dig behind the panel to check the air duct tubing. You likely have deteriorated ducts, or they're not attached somewhere. It is very simple, but difficult to access.

Do yourself a favor and take the front seats out - takes just a few minutes but saves a lot of frustration whenever you are digging around behind the panel.

I have found if the ducts are not routed properly the yoke shafts can smash them and tear holes.

Correctly routed depends on what you have installed.

If you have had some panel upgrades from the original equipment it may be that the outlet hoses were not reconnected, and it may be that there is not enough space back behind the electronics stacks to run and connect the hoses at all.

Item 80 on the second page is an optional blower.  I don't know if it was an option for the K model as well.
