flyboy0681 Posted August 3, 2016 Report Posted August 3, 2016 Sounds similar to the Asiana crash at SFO three years ago. According to this report, the tower had to remind the plane to lower the gear. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/emirates-airline-flight-crash-lands-093602755.html Quote

carqwik Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 According to some postings on pprune.net, the story about the tower telling the plane to lower the gear is not true; it originated from reporters listening to an ATC tape and misinterpreting certain instructions. Sounds like high temp, high winds with windshear....plane landed hard, bounced, and the crew somehow botched the go around or got hit with a massive tailwind and the plane settled back onto the runway while the gear was in transit upwards.... To make it Mooney related...botched landings are always a cause for concern in any size plane. 1 Quote
Hank Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 Isn't that what happened to the K-model at Oshkosh? Bounced landing somehow collapsed his gear? Quote
jetdriven Posted August 5, 2016 Report Posted August 5, 2016 It's just as likely, or even more likely, that the pilot grabbed the gear handle by mistake. Muscle memory takes over. Quote

It's apparent decay of society extends beyond the United States. Wouldn't someone think in the back of their mind that they might be costing someone their life when they have to grab that all important laptop or roll on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 Quote

I forced mine down in a field going hot because I needed to stop before the neighborhood. The field was full of 4ft weeds and multiple terraces and drops. I was around 2500-2650 lbs and my gear held up fine. 1 Quote
jetdriven Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 The gear wont hold up if its rigged incorrectly or the left seat occupant starts throwing swiches and levers and accidentally grabs the gear handle. It can happen, the web is full of them, including this board. Quote
