1524J Posted May 6, 2016 Report Posted May 6, 2016 Just recieved my mag back from its 500, or in my case, 700 hour inspection. I decided while I was having the mag inspected I'd go ahead and replace the vacuum pump since they were changed at approximately the same time. There wasn't anything wrong with the vacuum pump, just being cautious as my son will be using the plane. I noticed when I went to spin the new pump the fins were extending but almost binding at the same time. It feels like they need to wear slightly. The old pump spins free and will even continue spinning for a turn or so after I release the gear. Anyone have experience with this. My IA is going to install the mag and pump on Monday but I'd like to get a head start on ordering another vacuum pump if this is abnormal. Thanks!! Quote

Some resistance while turning the new pump is quite normal. Well worn old pumps spin more freely. If you take the end cap off the old pump you will see just how worn the old vanes are. Clarence Quote

Clarence Thanks Clarence, I've been wearing out most of the A&P's and IA's on the field because I'm checking every nook and cranny, system and instrument trying to get the plane ready for my son to take back West. I'm even having an annual performed 4 months early. I might have to put my CB membership on hold......nah....... I do appreciate the help! Quote
jclemens Posted May 8, 2016 Report Posted May 8, 2016 Don't spin that new pump backwards. What your describing is perfectly normal though. 1 Quote
