Not to start a Slick/Bendix debate or a overhauler bashing.

I recently noticed what at 1st appeared to be a very good deal on Overhauled Slick Mags at Aircraft Spruce.  It was to good to be true, they were advertising overhauled exchanged mags for ~$550. This is less than half the cost of just the parts alone to overhaul the Slick mags per the Slick Overhaul Manual.  After asking some very specific questions and a couple of emails they finally confirmed that these are not overhauled per the Slick Manual.  Kelly had developed and got approved their own internal procedure they are overhauling them to. It's completely legal for them to do this, but just beware of what parts are being replaced and what is being reused. They are reusing the Coil, distributor block/gears and condenser.  They originally posted my questions and Kelly's replys but have since removed them.  The word overhauled can have different meaning, if something is considerably cheaper start asking questions until you find the reason it's so much cheaper.

The only thing worse than a slick mag is anything overhauled or repaired by Kelly.  The money saved feels good until your plane breaks down on a trip and it costs you a grand and blows out your trip.

Run.  Don't walk.

complete garbage.
