I have a GNS 430W as my number 1 radio.  Number 2 is a KX155.   Number 2 may have died.  ( I need to verify still).  How much value would it be if I had 2 GNS 430W be.   I fly mainly VFR and rare light IFR.   I have a 496 with XM connected to the 430 also.

I think I'd stick with a KX155. Repair or slip another one in the tray. I do fly IFR and my #2 NavCom is a reliable KX155. I also have a GPS696 which would be useful in an emergency even IFR and more than adequate VRF.

My KX-165 died too...turned out to be a single fuse internal to the unit.  Very cheap to fix...hopefully that's the problem with yours...

I have been flying with 2 GNS430Ws and a 496 for a few years and have been pleased.  I also have a GNX330es transponder.  Typically I use the 2nd 430 to display traffic from the 330.  I have configured the #1 430 to push my flight-plan to both the 496 and to the  #2 430 so I can easily do what-if scenarios to consider alternate routing.  I value the added dispatch reliability of easily getting home if one 430 quits on a trip.  There is the downside of a more expensive Jepp subscription.

the KX-155 is a great Nav-Com

I am ready to bet that the support for the 430/530 boxes will end before the support to the KX-155

tablets with GPS are great VFR backups. even with an external antenna, I never lost the signal
