I believe that since it's a certified aircraft, it can't be converted to an experimental category. There's a chance that it may be able to be put into experimental exhibition category but the limitations are much more restrictive and you probably wouldn't like them.

I was down in Winchester this morning , and looked at this bird , It is so cool , I touched it , looked under the hood , and sat in the wonderful Recaro seats....It is glorious , I was told by the owner that even the TC was cancelled , they cant cancel the TC on the engines in the field....He said that would be the equivalent of Piper pulling the TC on all the Cubs.....Kinda makes sense , he also said that the Valve springs could be sourced from the car dealers inventory , and issued as owner supplied parts , No clue as to the reality of the statements , but he is a pretty knowledgeable guy who owns a well respected engine shop......

They have 3 courtesy Crown Vics at the FBO. Winchester is nice little town worth seeing. A lot of excellent food.

There is an Aerostar 680 at my home airport with two Chevy V8's under the cowling with "EXPERIMENTAL" on the door.

Art Mattson had a Cherokee 140 in the experimental category for speed mods. He was cruising at 165 I think.

Unless this ad is a lie, and it VERY well may be how can they fly this legally. The ad says certified in 2012, I checked the registration and it says classification is experimental and category is exhibition.

The PFM  (with a different FWF) be in the same class and cat. As this machine I'd imagine.

These are experimental- research and development aircraft. They have strict operating limitations and are not like the experimental aircraft people build and fly.
