KSMooniac Posted August 30, 2010 Report Posted August 30, 2010 rblauson, XeVision probably sent you my 337 as they requested a copy last week. I suggest you find another shop somewhere in your area that has a more reasonable FSDO. I don't know how the FSDO regions break down, but perhaps you can dig up that info and find out where the closest shop is within the adjacent FSDO region. You could likely fly down in the morning, have it installed while you wait, and fly home in the afternoon. It is a shame there are no longer any engineers or inspectors with a lick of sense working in many FSDOs these days. Quote
rblauson Posted August 31, 2010 Author Report Posted August 31, 2010 Ok Stan Protigals H3 Landing Light might be my only legit option. Anyone have knowledge about what that kit comes with? Is it simply a bulb replacement? or does it require an intsall? If so how much time? I realize its supposed to draw less amps and last longer than the stock landing light in my 1977 M20J, but does it produce more light? The stock bulb stinks.I wanted the XE vision product but my local FSDO said 3 weeks to 2 months for the approval. LoPrestis product is 945 + install--too expensive. The two LED lighting options are a simple R & R of the bulb, are supposed to work great, last thousands of hours etc. but both Whelen and Teledyne's products are not yet STC'd for the M20J. That seems to leave only Stan Protigals option, but if its not a marked improvement over stock I think I'll just wait. Also, I emailed Stan a few days ago and have not heard back. I'd like to ask him a few questions about his product-does anyone have his phone number? He doesnt list it--likely for this reason lol. Again, I hightly appreciate and respect the input from any of you that respond! Cheers- Mark Quote
KSMooniac Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 If the FSDO will approve the Xe Vision, then go ahead and submit and just wait on them. Make sure they see a wiring diagram that shows that none of the plane wires or switches are modified, and it should be a no-brainer once they actually look at it. I'd rather be patient and get the best solution than half-ass it just to be quick. Quote
rblauson Posted August 31, 2010 Author Report Posted August 31, 2010 i dont disagree but im trying to figure out if stans option really is half assed or not. perhaps its not and if it works well and is a legit improvement over what i have, its not that expensive. the xe vision approval will require weeks to months to get approval i already spoke with my FSDO. thats just too long. if stans light is an improvement it will be worth it to me because the stock light sucks pretty bad. danb35 Posted August 31, 2010 Report Posted August 31, 2010 Seriously, what's the hurry here? I have Stan's light on my Mooney, and I like it. I'm also considering replacing it with a HID unit, probably the XeVision, to get greater light output. Stan indicates that his STC doesn't put out as much as the stock 250W lamp, but it lasts longer, and (of course) draws less power. Quote
