Assuming you are instrument rated, how would you like being in the muck on an approach and having to look up and to the left at your approach plate?

If you are strictly VFR, no problem.

The Ram yoke mount works perfect For our mooney. The I pad becomes apart of the panel. It's a solid mount very user friendly. Easy to include in your IFR scan. The approach plates are easy to view. I use Garmin Pilot IFR geo referenced.

I had a yoke mount and found it was pretty bulky, so I experimented a few flights with a suction mount on the side window. Flyboy is right, not the right place for it if you are using it for plates. Too much head up and down. Fortunately my Aspen MFD can also display charts, so I played around with it a bit like that. I eventually moved it back to the yoke with another style mount that I posted in the thread I attached above.

I just got the ram yolk mount for my mini. Definitely takes a bit to get used to flying with something attached to the yolk, but it is a good set up.

I found that with the yoke mount, it fit better and was easier to read by getting the short double socket (2" long) to get the Mini as close to the yoke as possible without worrying about the Yoke mount itself being to close to the panel and influencing the controls.  In this configuration, you can also get the iPad horizontal if you off center it towards the right.

I prefer the X-grip versus the iPro Navigator with clipboard for yoke mount options.  I like the clipboard concept but you have to take the mini out of its case to slide it in...and the clipboard has found several ways to frustrate me.  Everytime I needed a clipboard, it was faster to tap on the scratchpad portion of Foreflight than to close the lid, grap a pencil, and start writing.

I tried the suction mount and it works but I sacrificed visibility or usability in most mounting locations.  It is now on a shelf...and I'm thinking of converting it into a water bottle holder.

I also tried the Ram mount that fits under the compass and then had to link multiple double sockets Ram extensions together to get the iPad in a usable spot where it didn't block my view/reach of things on the panel.  I ended up going back to the Yoke.

FWIW:  The right seat iPad mini yoke mount with x-grip is annoying getting INTO the plane since the x-grip seems to always "grip" my pant leg as I climb in.  My wife likes it though, so I have an incentive to improve my flexibility instead.  If I'm paying attention when I get out of the plane, I slide it out of the way.

Thumbs up on the Close Mounted Yoke mount.

CW that is so subjective..the only way to find out is to experiment, I have a mini and an air and I like the air on my knee since my eyes are tired and its my 3rd back-up...you will get many opinions but only yours count..

I said the same thing in that thread.  ipad mini on a ram mount.  Perfect setup for me.

Robb, just out of curiosity which attachment point do you use, the upper or lower on the back plate that holds the iPad? On mine, which is probably identical to yours, there are two options. I'm not looking at mine now, but I believe it came out the box with the neck attached to the upper attachment point. It seems to position the iPad a bit too high, at least on my Saratoga. May be different on the Mooney, I haven't tried it there yet.

Regards, Frank
