I'd say Stinson field is the GA airport of choice in San Antonio, but located in the older part of town.  New Braunfels KBAZ is close by and a vacation town.  Has a couple of crew cars, plenty of hotels (if it's not spring break - is it!?)  Towered field but not much traffic.  Lots of MOA's around San Antonio.  San MArcos is a little further away, great airport, also towered but minimal traffic - Mooney shop on the field.

I live in San Antonio and keep my Mooney at KHYI (San Marcos). It's about a 45 min drive to SA, or an hour +  in traffic.

 

KBAZ (New Braunfels) is closer, about a 30 min drive.

 

KSSF (Stinson) is south of downtown and about 20-30 min away.

 

5C1 (Boerne Stage) is NW of city and about 35 to 40 min to downtown..

 

KSAT is about 15-20 min away from downtown.

 

 

All have their pluses and minuses.  Look on Airnav.com to see FBO's/ Fuel prices/ Phone numbers to call to find out overnight costs for tie downs or hangers.  (Charges for overnight is usually only at KSAT.)

 

A lot depends on where you are going in the city and how long you'll be here.

I base in Castroville (KCVB). Fuel is $4.30. Courtesy car there. About 25-30 min from downtown.

I base at Boerne Stage (5C1), call Michelle she'll hook you up 830- 981-2345. It's northwest of town on I-10. Call me if I can help. Ray 830-229-5796....fuel is expensive at 5c1...Castroville is much cheaper fuel. Crappy weather is here

I went into KCVB, cheap fuel.  They charge ramp fee and the crew car was unavailable.  I do not recommend unless you are gas and go.

I can see from flightaware that you are stopped by weather in Venice. It would be reasonable to fuel at Castroville, and park at Boerne if that works for you. KSAT is really close to downtown as is Stinson. Lots of hotels all around. Weather is good here now and for the next several days. Enjoy your trip.

I personally like Stinson (SSF).  Close to downtown but still GA Friendly.

I ended up stopping at BTR for fuel and turned back to TLH to stay out of range of the forecasted weather. I left this morning ahead of a pretty nasty system. Maybe next week...
