scottfromiowa Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Anyone know if you can swap the old six pack gauge cluster for the strip gauges WITHOUT messing with the probes? Is the connector inter-changeable? Thanks for reply. Just thinking if I re-do right panel the strip gauges would take less real-estate accross the top... Quote
Ned Gravel Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Scott: That is something I have thought about as well. I met someone once who did just that, but I did not get any details from them and I have since lost contact. But it is still attractive to me. That is, right up until I can afford TSO engine management glass which will replace all of them as primary. Quote
scottfromiowa Posted August 4, 2010 Author Report Posted August 4, 2010 I already have digital exhaust gas and cylinder temp (multi-probe)...so will probably go EI Tach and Manifold gauges to supplement my already installed EI volt and fuel flow...can't justify install of glass for oil temp/pressure...I sump my tanks for fuel and use time/actual burn vs. fuel gauges...I just don't use the gauges in plane...DON'T TRUST 'EM. scottfromiowa Posted August 4, 2010 Author Report Posted August 4, 2010 I hear you...I bought the EI digital fuel flow and had wire run to GPS. I am installing at annual with new tires/tubes, brake rotation, pads and brake cylinder and hydraullic gaskets a new...Looking forward to superior stopping power...again and knowing the exact fuel flow at different power settings...but NOT enough to rush fall. November in Iowa will come soon enough anyway! Quote
Alan Fox Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 I switched to a strip guage when I did the SWTA panel mod on my B , and the senders were all the same , I know for a fact that all mooney fuel senders are the same , and the engine senders are lycoming parts , I have a spare strip guage for a 78 201 if any one wants it... jax88 Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 I'm with you M016576, coasting down the runway is fairly relaxing, as well as free. Quote
scottfromiowa Posted October 3, 2010 Author Report Posted October 3, 2010 L.O.L...I have same tires and pads since I bought over 400 hours ago. Tires are the real reason (and doing the brake rotation) and the flap pump handle needs new gaskets (over 40 years and it's leaking). I just returned from northern Wisconsin. Fastest trip ever. Did 400 miles in under 2 hours (1.97) 8500 feet. 162 knots ground speed in cruise and 50 degrees rich of peak. Sumped tanks. Fuel usage of 22 gallons total. Not bad. Quote
