N7186V Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 I noticed that Power Flow exhaust systems for the Mooney are on sale right now. I was wondering if anyone knows how regularly these sales happen, or if this is a one-time thing. I'd like to wait to get the system if possible, but it looks like a deal too good to pass up if it isn't a regular occurrence. http://www.powerflowsystems.com/products.php?cat_id=5&pid=46 Thanks, -V Quote
Tom Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 The base price is typically $4,500-$4,600. PFS pricing is such that they always provide a discount if you take a delayed delivery. I don't see anything new on the link that you posted. If in the market, consider talking to a local distriubutor/installer to see if they can get a better rate. Quote

The "Valid through: 9/30/2014" on the table lead me to believe this is special pricing, but I figured checking with the experts here would let me know if it is just creative marketing. Quote
1964-M20E Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Creative marketing would be to lower the price to $2,500 +/- and sell more of them. It would be on the consideration list in that range when it was time for exhaust replacement. Quote
aaronk25 Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 Yep kinda expensive and if your up north like me your going to need to get the preheater option for a couple hundred more bucks too. The preheater surrounds one of the exhaust header pipes then via ducting goes to the main heater. The muffler is the basically fiberglass packing in the tail pipe and on a stock system what we refer to the muffler as is actually a system that collects all the exhaust and points them down the tail pipe reducing back pressure. This system gain my J a solid 5kts. Quote
N7186V Posted September 23, 2014 Author Report Posted September 23, 2014 ... you're going to need to get the preheater option for a couple hundred more bucks too. It looks like that is only needed for Gen1. Good information! Quote
aaronk25 Posted September 23, 2014 Report Posted September 23, 2014 It looks like that is only needed for Gen1. Good information! They told me if operation is going to be in climates of -20c were defiantly going to need it. The inside of the exhaust system just doesn't have the area that the stock system had to transfer heat. Hopefully the 23 re-write will be done by that time and you can buy a non-TSO'd equivalent for <1.5-2AMU. 1 Quote
philiplane Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Some years ago, I put one of the first PFS systems on a 1968 M20F. What a difference! Well worth the money, especially when you will throw over half of that money at rebuilding the stock exhaust. Too many people run stock exhausts for far too long, by which I mean, to the point of failure. If your exhaust is over 20 years old or 1500 hours in service, you should consider replacing it before it gets a chance to kill you. Quote
Hector Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Group buy? Wonder how low we could drive the price. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD Quote
Bob_Belville Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 I bought mine when I was faced with a muffler replacement. I think it is well worth the difference. I don't have good before and after data but my old E cruises @ 158k tas @ 70%. The "tuned exhaust" is supposed to be optimized for 10,500 so it will shine @ 9000 and above. I don't think Jim has posted here but he does follow the MAPA discussion group. Quote
