Mooneymite Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 I just happend to be going through some old paperwork and happened upon the old Aviall part numbers for the capacitor and the points for the shower of sparks....these numbers may have been superceded, but it's a place to start: Capacitor: 10-164418 Points: 10-176489 (Mine is a Bendix starting vibrator 10-176487-121B. I suspect it's pretty standard.) Quote
N601RX Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 Aero-In-Stock has most of the parts in stock and can order the others. It only took the 3 days or so to get the ones they did not have. They charged me about $100 for the points and capacitor 2 years ago. When replacing them be careful to get the small insulators back in their place or it will be shorted out. Follow the overhaul manual for setting the dwell on the points, this isn't an obvious adjustment as it involves slightly bending the arm. If it isn't correct, the current and spark will be weak or either to high and damage the primary coil in the mag. Quote
bonal Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 If you file your points no matter how clean your file it will leave a film of oil on the points keeping them from making contact. Use a paper towel with a bit of lacquer thinner on it and slip it through the open points to clean off the oil 1 Quote
Mooneymite Posted October 5, 2014 Report Posted October 5, 2014 They charged me about $100 for the points and capacitor 2 years ago. Gee! My receipt from 2001, showed about $9 for the points and about $28 for the capacitor. Quote
