FlyDave Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 I'm flying from CA to NY on the 19th/20th of this month with my wife and back on the 27th/28th with jerry-N5911Q. So I'm looking at multiple weather sources and really like aviationweather.gov. ADDS continues to impress me every time I go exploring on the site but the following page is excellent! http://aviationweather.gov/fcstdisc You can get to this page by cursoring over "FORECASTS" at the top of the page and select "Avn. Forecast Desc." Click on the area you want a forecast for and a forecast written in plain English is displayed below that map. Simply wonderful! I'll keep exploring but please post any "gems" you've found on this or any other weather site. Dave 1 Quote
FlyDave Posted September 11, 2014 Author Report Posted September 11, 2014 Well, looking at more of the forecasts they aren't all in "plain English" but I haven't seen a forecast written like this anywhere else. So I stand by 94.317% of my previous post. Quote
cliffy Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 Learn something new every day! Not a bad website at all! Thanks ! Quote
bonal Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 Thanks for the tip, hope your trip is a great one. What rout are you flying? Quote
FlyDave Posted September 11, 2014 Author Report Posted September 11, 2014 Outbound my wife and I will go: Friday o69 to somewhere near Denver (cheap fuel?) Saturday Denver to KBIV to visit family for lunch After lunch on Saturday, KBIV to KPOU for a week with my father Jerry and I still have to plan where we're stopping on the way back. If anyone here on Mooneyspace want's to plan lunch or a quick stop to see some sites, get fuel with us then please let me know and we'll organize it. Quote
BorealOne Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 I keep waiting for ADDS to include a GFA product. It's the one thing I miss when flying in the USA. Canada has far fewer FBOs, fewer enroute services, and much higher fuel and other costs generally--but much better weather products. https://flightplanning.navcanada.ca/Latest/gfa/anglais/Latest-gfacn35_cldwx_006-e.html?Produit=GFA&Region=35&Langue=anglais&NoSession=NS_Inconnu&Mode=graph Quote
N601RX Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 I like the usairnet site for a quick look see. http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?Submit=Go&sta=K79J&state=AL Quote
mike_elliott Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 most of you know about www.weathermeister.com while not free, is excellent, includes an electronic logbook. developed by by former Mooney Dan Checkoway. A great site for long range planning for enroute wx. Quote
Jerry 5TJ Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 The ADDS Icing products page is impressive and the forecasts are more accurate and precise than what we could see a decade ago. I've found ice where forecast both in altitude and location. If it says SLD it's not a good place for (my) Mooney. Quote

KPCW is having a chili fly-in and a TBM re-union for veterans tha flew them. We have a restored TBM on the field and the owner flys veterans on their birthdays through the year. Port Clinton should be a good stiop on your way back, we have an excellent diner on the field too, to fill the belly also. Quote

I live in Mexico, but make frequent VFR trips from Mexico to NY to CO and AZ returning to Mexico in my old bird. This site even includes much info on Mexico for which no current VFR charts are available for flight planning. thanks for sharing. Rocky Quote
