Oldguy Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 I hate to jinx myself, but I have registered for it. First time I tried to go to the one in Tennessee and my plane got held up in annual. Then I lost an alternator about 20 minutes into the flight to the one in Florida earlier this year. I'm hoping the third one is the charm! John Quote
Wakeup Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 What actually happens at the meetings. Would love to go and visit my girls at the same time. Thanks. Troy Quote
Hank Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 They are pretty much all-day affairs. Classroom stuff on flying by the numbers, maintenance seminars, GPS seminars, medical information, safety seminars, etc.. You'll fly two hours each on two days, one day VFR and one day IFR. My first one I flew VFR both days as I wasn't rated. Multiple approaches, landings at several outlying fields, maneuvers, emergency descents, stalls, slow flight, etc. The whole thing, ground and air, will count as a BFR, an IPC and FAA Wings completion. There may be additional Wings credit left over. I find it to be enjoyable. I've gone twice, five years apart; the first time was as a new owner, and I hit 100 hours in my logbook enroute to the PPP. You'll learn a lot if you are open-minded. They usually provide CFIIs with significant Mooney experience. There's a dinner on Saturday night that most people attend, but it's not mandatory and is not included in the course fee. Quote
Danb Posted August 24, 2014 Author Report Posted August 24, 2014 Hank, will you be attending? I went last year hopefully going 2 yrs in a row will still be beneficial. You may also see a good reduction in your insurance rates, plus they will be available for night flight on a couple evenings, since I'm not night current I felt there would be extra benefit ....It's cool having a room full of Mooney folks with there tails along. Aviator Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 Roanoke will be my second Mooney Safety PPP. Really looking forward to some needed proficiency work. Coming down from Saratoga , NY. Hoping my wife enjoys the activities. Quote
Houman Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 Looking to the one in Atlantic City later this year as I was told that it will be added to the calendar if enough people request it. Hope it happens, as I have heard really great things about the PPP... Quote

Ya'll have fun without me. Took my wife to the one at Niagara in '12; yesterday we moved from a storage unit into a condo here in Auburn while we wait for our WV house to sell. This week we will be getting out of the temporary furnished apartment. No time for visiting Roanoke . . . But I do plan on going again. It's good practice to check in every now and again, to brush up on what I'm doing and unlearn any bad habits that have snuck in. With my C, though, I've never seen a difference in insurance rates. But it's still good education. Quote
Danb Posted August 24, 2014 Author Report Posted August 24, 2014 I would change in a minute if you were sure that they would have one at Atlantic City... I went there last year and KACY treated us great.... 1 Quote
Mooneymite Posted August 24, 2014 Report Posted August 24, 2014 My experiences at ROA Landmark have generally been expensive...the most expensive avgas by far, in a 50 mi. radius and unless you buy the pricey avgas, the tie down/facility fees are high. There are no close by alternatives. Having said that, the line personnel are excellent, the FBO was recently remodeled and the front desk is friendly. Landmark really likes monopoly situations...so if you like Landmark, you'll love ROA. Quote
