lukejb Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 I am interested in getting a demo or some dual in a Mooney in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I do not own one yet but am considering Mooney J or K model as a choice for my next purchase. The performance specs are very appealing. I currently own a Citabria and in addition to that have flown Pipers, Cessna's and several different taildraggers, but actually never been up in a Mooney. I would really just like to see the way it handles and the comfort of it in flight first. If that all goes well and I move forward with the purchase then I would actually like to get going full speed into transition training in my own plane. Does anyone know someone in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that I may be able to purchase some dual from or a demo flight and perhaps also mentor me in determining the right Mooney model for my needs? Thanks! Quote
RocketAviator Posted January 6, 2014 Report Posted January 6, 2014 Luke, While I can not offer any transition training nor instruction and I have no experience with any Mooney other than my Rocket and over 800 hrs in my Saratoga, I plan to be at our lake house in Granbury this weekend and I would be glad to take you up for a Mooney Rocket ride if we can work out the details. You may want to consider Dave Marten 1980 231.... I understand it is a sweat well taken care of bird. I have no dog in this race I just know Dave to be a good guy from the Mooneyspace and Oshkosh Mooney formation flying and has been a great support to me... PM me if interested. Let me know, Lacee Wait I take that back... DO NOT purchase Dave's 231, I need him to keep it until he can train me for the Mooney Formation Flight into 2014 Oshkosh LOL!!!! Ok just kidding I feel sure it is a great and well maintained plane..! Quote
lukejb Posted January 7, 2014 Author Report Posted January 7, 2014 Thank you for the offer I wish I was going to be here this weekend. Unfortunately I will be in Chicago later this week and weekend. Not a place I like to frequent in January. Granbury is a quick flight for me in the Citabria if there is another weekend you will be in town and we could work it out I would be very interested in going up in your Rocket. Thanks! Quote
RocketAviator Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Will let you know, I try to get there once or more a month and plan to be there as much as possible over the summer. Maybe we can trade out a Citabria for a Rocket ride... I am looking into spin training with with one of our local designated examiners.who has a Citabria Quote
Parker_Woodruff Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 When you buy your Mooney, I would be happy to provide your transition training. I have owned an M20J and M20K. Quote
mike_elliott Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 +1 for Parker. There is an F model in Mesquite for sale that appeared to be a nice plane. I was going to ferry it to Maxwells last Nov. for annual, but wx wouldn't permit a VFR flight (ferry permit) Don could give you the owner info. Well equipped, sans autopilot. Quote
triple8s Posted January 7, 2014 Report Posted January 7, 2014 Another pilot "ruined" by a ride in a rocket.........never to be satisfied by anything less............ Quote
