IndyTim Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 Thanks for asking. No, I have essentially written off the deposits. We've filed a claim against Airnet, and there is some small chance that they'll pull it out, make a bunch of money, and honor the pre-receivership customers. But I've been advised to not hold my breath. I've gone over this scenario in my mind a hundred times, if not more: what should I have done differently? Perhaps escrow the money, if the shop would have allowed that but it's clear after the fact that they didn't have the funds available to order the TKS kit, and again in hindsight, had run out of credit with CAV Aerospace. CAV Aerospace referred me to Airnet -- not sure how much CAV knew about the situation but clearly they should have known about Airnet's credit standing. The fact that Airnet accepted my very large deposits just 20 days before being taken into receivership sickens me - they knew it was coming but chose to plow forward, and endanger customer's funds. Again, I think what I should have done differently, and what I will do going forward, is pay for equipment in full, up front, so there are no issues with title. One hopes this doesn't happen with other shops in the future, but the problem is there is no way to tell what a shop's financial position is, unless they are publicly traded. There is no transparency. Any updates? I hope that things have gone well for you since March. Quote
Marauder Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 I'm really sorry to hear how this is progressing. Earlier in the thread I mentioned how I dealt with a situation where the company's stability was in question. As you pointed out, the private sector does not file 10ks, company reports or any SEC filings let alone comply with SOx. It truly is caveat emptor when you are dealing with them. I was REALLY worried about this when I dealing with the shop I was working with. If the price they were offering wasn't so compelling, I would have walked away. The risk mitigation I took is what you mentioned. I bought the equipment through them and insisted on holding it until they were ready to do the installation. Quote
nationwide Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 I'm really sorry to hear how this is progressing. I'm also sorry to hear this. Sounds like integrity in business was severely lacking. I hope it still works out for you. Quote
jlunseth Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Where is the 30K more coming from? It used to be 30K to install inadvertent and now is 60K or so to install FIKI if I recall correctly. There are a few hours of labor to remove the old TKS panels if you want full FIKI but it's not 30K extra per se, it's still 60K plus a few hours of labor. I was going through this thread from awhile back and saw that I had not responded to this question. The numbers I provided came from a phone call I made about a year ago to CAV. I was interesting in buying an inadvertent equipped Bravo and converting it to FIKI. The numbers I provided are the numbers they gave me. Apparently, the entire inadvertent system must be removed and replaced, so it is quite a bit more cost to go from inadvertent to FIKI, than simply adding FIKI to an airframe that has no TKS. Don't ask me why it is so much, I don't know, except remember that the certification is of the entire aircraft as a system, not just adding on some components. Sorry about the legal mess. Quote
PMac Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 I stopped by Don Maxwell today to look at 252BH. I had never seen a Mooney after gear up but before repairs. Damage was pretty minimal. I would like to speak to the owner. Thanks Paul pmacprecision@gmail.com Quote
carusoam Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 Welcome aboard, Pmac. If you are looking for Tim, you can probably send him a PM... Appending to a two year old thread might not work very well... I believe All American is representing that plane, you might want to contact Jimmy or David directly... Best regards, -a- Quote
