  1. I have a 1984 m20J. What do y’all do to mount an iPad to the yoke? See attached pic of what I started to buy but need confirmation that I’m buying what I need. I have an iPad 8th generation 10.2” screen size (9.8” vertical) but may need to get a mini so it fits better. This yoke seems smaller than the Cessna 172 I’ve been flying.
  2. Having installed a Garmin GTX 345 I no longer need the Stratus anymore. Works great and comes with the antennas and USB charging cord. Asking $395 and will ship to Canada or the US. Steve sdawson630@gmail.com 510F327F-218A-4026-A5C3-8E3520AFC624.heic C0C22A4B-D373-4BA9-BDC5-9C894B431219.heic
  3. Looking to see best solution to mount an iPad Mini in a 93 J, what are others using? I’m a new Mooney pilot and haven’t had enough time flying it to investigate. My guess is a pilot yoke mount would be best yet I see some photos of people placing them on copilot side.
  4. Today I flew for the first time with the following avionics: IFD550 IFD440 IFD100 on each of two iPads. KFC150 with KAS297B altitude pre-select/altitude hold. The amount of information presented and the situational awareness is absolutely ridiculous !! I had the normal map on the 550 with synthetic vision on one iPad and the approach plate on the second iPad. The 440 is kinda redundant. And to think, back in the day I did my instrument training in a piece of crap rental Piper Arrow with 180 HP that would do 125 kts in a descent on a good day and we had to circle to get up to 9,000 ft to proceed along the Victor airway. It had no autopilot but two VORs, one with an ILS. Such an amazing transformation in our cockpits in just over a dozen years.
  5. Fellow Mooney folks, I have a 2016 iPad Air, 32g for sale. It is wifi only, no scratches, dings or dents. Asking $350 plus shipping.
  6. So I have a 94 M20J with a 28 volt system. I would like to have my iPad and ADS-B Receiver plugged into a USB plug. Problem is, I think my cigarette plug is 28 volt. I saw a usb charger by mygoflight that is supposed to accept 28 volts but it has received really bad reviews. A couple people have even stated that it destroyed their iPads and Stratus receivers... Thoughts ?
  7. Has anyone else experienced their iPad "sticking" in one presentation after the IOS 10.2 upgrade? I have now had multiple occurrences of mine sticking in portrait and landscape since the last IOS upgrade. While it has not happened while I was in flight, it is irritating when it does it on the ground. The only solution I have found is to power off and back on (reboot). The wife's mini also shows the same symptoms. Current iPad is iPad Air, 64 GB, IOS 10.2., WI-FI and ATT cellular. Wife's is iPad mini Retina 64 GB, IOS 10.2, WI-FI only. Thanks.
  8. Apologies in advance, but I searched and can't find the answer. I just installed the 210, along with the Garmin 345 in order to have ADS B (TCAS, weather, etc). The included Flightstream info is REALLY light (read nothing there, really). I have my iPad paired up, but haven't had a chance to see what it and I can do. I have a pair of 340s installed, one WAAS, and understand I can upload the flightplan. I also seem to recall I can DOWNLOAD wx and traffic to the iPad. I also have a previously installed XM receiver, and a third party tablet installed, but the old tablet is VERY touchy. I'd rather upload the XM stuff to the iPAD, which is new and shiny. Lots of questions, I'm sorry again. Any answers or advice? Thanks, Dave
  9. The September 2016 issue of IFR "You Need an EFB" quotes AIM 1-1-17.b1.(c)(3) as indicating that a yoke-mounted holder is a "modification of the aircraft" governed by 14CFR Part 43, and recommends an A&P logbook entry. My partner and I both fly behind an iPad, using a RAM yoke mount. We've done this for years, have confirmed that the mount does not impede yoke movement, and neither of us find any issues in reading the panel or accessing switches or the fuel selector. For those on Mooneyspacethat use use a yoke mount for an iPad, mini iPad, portable GPS or any other device - do you have an A&P signoff? Have you had any discussion with an FAA inspector about your yoke mount? I am not looking to debate the various means of mounting an iPad or the fact that a iPad mini is smaller than the standard iPad. Just looking for information on if a yoke mount presents a verified regulator compliance issue.
  10. I'm curious to know if anyone has an opinion and current experience with the latest versions of Forefight and Garmin Pilot. My renewal for Foreflight is in the next few days, but I'm debating on whether to continue using it or if I should give Garmin Pilot a try for the next year. Last year, I staged myself with the same question, but at the time the price of Garmin Pilot for the version I would need was substantially more than a comparable version subscription to Foreflight. Since my plane was in for upgrade when my foreflight subscription came up last year, I just went ahead with what I was familiar with considering the price delta. I included a panel pic, but considering the functionality of an Ipad in flight now, I went ahead a left a blank spot on the panel to mount mine. A few factors for me in consideration are: 1.) I sold my BadElf Pro when I upgraded my panel, with the intent of buying a stratus 2 or a GDL39. Since then, it seems like AHRS and Syn Vis have become increasingly popular. But since I don't have either one, I'm not married to either system. I will admit that the Flightstream 210 is pretty appealing, and considering that both can benefit from it, I may get one regardless of this decision. 2.) This year, a subscription of the Foreflight Pro Plus is $199, while Garmin Pilot is $74.99 for the base subscription and an additional $74.99 for the IFR Premium package. 3.) They both are now integrating Logbooks, documents, Synthetic Vision, Geo-referenced plates, etc. so it seems like functional features are a moot point. 4.) The only thing I have found that is a big difference is the forefilght Web which is still in Beta, but will make for easier flight planning if I leave my ipad or phone in the plane, car, house, etc. I don't have any real world experience with Garmin Pilot beyond the trial period I enrolled in last spring, which was minimal, but it seemed to be pretty friendly as well. Are there any limitations or advantages of one over another that I'm not considering? It looks like they are going the way of standardization, and it's quickly becoming a game of preference vs. feature set and functionality. I did notice that Garmin has the VIRB integration, which is pretty cool, but would not be a deal breaker for me. Abe L. Harper, Jr. 1R8 N7463V - '75 M20C
  11. Ok I have a 24v cigarette lighter outlet in my Mooney (ok who ever thought smoking while flying in a Mooney was a good idea? , and would like a solution that i can run my ipad from airplane power (and in the near future my Stratus II) without draining the ipad battery. I bought a Scosche dual usb adapter (supposedly both 2.1 amp outlets) and one other one and both when the ipad is plugged in, cellular off, using internal GPS, dimmed to the point where I can barely read everything, and the ipad battery still discharges. I read one of sporty's comments on someone else who had the same issue with the Scosche charger and they said.. Sporty's Response The electrical drain of an iPad in use can be larger than the output current of any charger. This is often the case when using a newer iPad with a retina display on full brightness and bluetooth running for an external GPS. This requires more than the 2.1 amps that a charger will provide. Dial back the screen brightness, or turn the screen off when not in use to preserve battery life. With all of us ipad users, and im sure some of you have 24v outlets like me, there must be a solution for this, as i also wanted to eventually add stratus and would like the convenience of not having to charge the units by AC electircal power only. I have an ipad retina display unit. Is this just the way it is with any adapter as Sporty's says? I suppose if it is, ill just have to keep turning it on and off which is an annoyaance, but Im hoping there's a solution that someone has found out there. When I add stratus and need to turn on Wi-fi, will that make this battery life issue worse? Permanent USB install in aircraft? Any working solutions would be highly appreciated!
  12. I would like to know if anyone has experience with an electronic check list? I am looking to clean up the cockpit and since I have both the IPad & a Tablet yoke mounted... yea I know... too much..stuff, but I do use them both and will most likely migrate to the IPad in the end. I also plan to mount / fix the IPad somehow to a location other than the Yoke in order to maximize the Xavion app use. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions to mounting the IPad somehow in the center of a Mooney below the main panel, chime in with that as well. Looking for a app that I can customize and has emergency check list, night / day (bright / dim). Thanks in advance, Lacee
  13. Does anyone use a iPad mount attached to their windshield that places it near the compass? I was experimenting with places to put mine and realized on a flight the other day that it was causing 20 to 25 degrees of deviation. Mine is WiFi and was conntected to a SkyRadar ADS-B receiver at the time I noticed it. Has anyone else noticed this. Also, if you use a suction mount, where do you locate it?
  14. See attached pictures for my cheap solution to mounting the Ipad with minimal space required. The clamp is a 1 in EMT or conduit clamp from Home Depot with silicone rubber to reduce to the size needed. I used .060 Aluminum bent to desired position with a piece of foam behind it for stability. If I didn't have the map light switch, I would not need the washers. My Ipad has a plastic rear cover which has the velcro attached to it. Works great. Paul
  15. From the album: #mooniac58's album

Got the X-grip iPad mount. New mini is talking to the panel and syncing flight plans with Connected Panel perfectly.
