Hi everyone. So far I've logged 400 hours flying our '67C since we acquired her 3 years ago. It's been a blast. In cruise the "ball" on the Brittain TC100 lies a little-bit off center to the right, but I ignored it, because the TC100 doesn't really seem that sensitive. However, since I installed the AV-20, when displaying the AI function I noticed that "ball" is about 1/3 out of center to the right in cruise and is quite sensitive. In cruising level flight trimmed with no rudder input, when I put in enough right rudder to center the ball, she starts to climb. This tells me that in normal cruising flight with no rudder input, the ship is out of trim. Looking at the S&MM, I see the procedure to bend the rudder tab to effect rudder trim. The tab on my aircraft is not bent, so it seems that none of the prior owners took this step. Looking at the rudder pedals, the right one is much more worn than the left, which causes me to suspect that pilots have kept some right rudder in for thousands of hours. Has anybody done this? The S&MM manual gives a maximum deflection of 0.08", but no procedure or steps. I'd like a procedure. Should I just try increments? I'd appreciate hearing from someone who has done this. Is 0.08" too much or just enough? Given the 0.08" limit, I'm thinking about trying 0.02" increments of bend to the left to impart a bit of right rudder force. Thoughts?

Pics of the vertical b-11. And the tc100 evt but it does have a dreaded Beechcraft logo on it. I think you can see the flag. My 67m20f has the tc100evs installed but I have a b-106 to go with it on the shelf. I’d prefer to just change the faceplate on the accu-trak. Brittain said they don’t have many spare plates but it will work horizontally. Aesthetically, I don’t want to do that. What’s the difference between accutrak versions 1 and 2?

Happy Friday Mooney Family - So....I've hit what I'm hoping isn't an entirely unique dilemma. I've got a TC100 (12V version) that has failed in my '75 C Model. It's currently at Rudy Instruments but after talking to Mike earlier today, it seems that the cage is worn beyond serviceable limits. Due to parts availability and Brittain being closed, he is very uncertain about their ability to effectively complete the overhaul on it to a quality they'd sign off. I know that it's a long stretch, but I figured I'd start here first to see if anyone has one sitting on the shelf that they're looking to sell. The funny part - it failed on the last day of a 10 day Instrument course which now has my check-ride on hold temporarily. My avionics tech has advised on placarding "In-op" and logging it, which I am fine with, considering that I have an Aspen and it serves as a backup only in that respect. My concern, however, is that it takes the wing leveler and the autopilot out of the equation as well. I'm not too worried about hand-flying for the check-ride without them, but I'm not sure that I want to venture out after as an (hopefully) instrument rated pilot, without those safety margins available to me. From the bit of research that I've done, it seems like my options are pretty limited. Basically, short of finding a serviceable unit, my main option is to have the entire system pulled and upgrade to a newer auto-pilot ($$$$$$$$)... I've given thought to a GFC500, but the path upgrade path sounds painful and I'm told they don't play well with Aspen and cannot receive Heading bug or Altitude instructions from the Pro 1000. Bendix's AeroCruze 100 seems like a viable option, but they're quoting 5-6 months and requiring payment entirely up front. (Been there before and don't feel comfortable shelling out that much that far in advance without a reasonably defined delivery date. Have also had some issues with Bendix Customer support in the past.) Anyone else dealt with this dilemma, or have any thoughts/recommendations on a best path forward? Am I the only one still flying around with a Brittain System? Thanks in advance! Abe

Hi gang, My Brittain TC100 TnB has flown to avionics paradise (corner shelf in my hangar) when it started showing left and right turns during level flight in smooth air... I am thinking of replacing the TnB with a new attitude indicator (AC91-75). What are your pireps on RCA2610-3 and uAvionics 30? I'm not sure if I'll hook up the uAvionics to the pitot static. It's not my primary goal for now... Pireps? Comments? Cheers

Searching for a Brittain BI-805 servo controller valve
Echo replied to Zippy_Bird's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Yes it would. I am putting the heading bug where your tc100 is (bottom left of six pack). Aspen is just a horizon and nice dg that doesn’t wander. It is a vfr panel. I have an electric horizon in hole now. Don’t need it. Value the brittain accu-flite. Wondering if I can drive an accu-trak with my Aera? -
Wow, living right this week. I had an accu-flite in my first plane and the heading bug was simply wonderful. It's no wizz-bang Garmin, but buddy it is pretty darn nice to have a dialed in heading bug tied to your PC wing leveler. The ability to trim out a Mooney makes this a wonderful add-on. If you have wind pushing you off course you just dial it in to compensate. I had the Accu-Trak with GPS, but I rarely used because the Accu-Flite was so good. So, I needed the BI-805 to drive the Accu-Trak after finding another Mooney owner that was selling his Directional Gauge with heading bug and Accu-Flite. He had a TC-100EVT (that includes the BI-805 integrally on panel) so didn't have the BI-805. They are hard to find, so what to do? I reached out to Kevin at Brittain and he gave me a heads up on someone that had a Cessna 182 with the Brittain system. I reached out by email and he sold me the BI-805 as well as An Accu-Trak II, TC100 EVS and additional system components in a package deal. I am having a stereo intercom and engine monitor installed as well as an Aera in my panel. Plan to update hoses to my Brittain 11900 series wing leveler. Have the hoses and will update with install of BI-805 in the tail. Should have system up and running in a few weeks. Really looking forward to having a very nice functional panel in my new to me Mooney M20E. If you are willing to "shop" and are patient there are good deals to be had in Brittain systems that are quite simple to install and maintain and they make flying cross-country a pleasure in a vintage Mooney. Enjoy the hunt fellow CB's!

First of all, I'm not an expert, or an A&P, just a '67F owner. I was told by a former Brittain tech in March 2021, that Gates #27043 Windshield Washer & Vacuum Tubing was a suitable replacement for the 7/32" ID tubing. It can also be looked up under Gates Product #40404107. The latex hose sometimes used by Brittain didn't last. Note: Recommend you verify your hose ID before ordering; difference hoses may have been used; my TC is under the panel and it's a TC100 EVT. The turn coordinator air filters are Brittain P/N 123-002-002. Those were modified Fram G12 fuel filters. Fram filters have a 5/16" outlet and the hose will fit very tight. The hose and filters can be purchased on line from an auto parts store.

Hi. I'm working on my 1967 Brittain TC100 turn coordinator wing leveller. It works on vacuum but not electric and I've narrowed the problem to the LC filter in the remote power supply. Does anyone have the manual that might spec out this component? It's about the size of an AA battery. The gyro spins up when I bypass this filter so... But I'm thinking it suppresses the high frequency noise created by the power supply.

Mine runs the TC100 (along with Electric) and the PC system. I could remove the TC100 since I have G5's. I already have kit for the Vacuum Pump removal but will probably wait till I do the AP. Nice to have the wing leveler for a bit of piece of mind in IFR.

Are you still having the issue with your TC100? Inside the control box, for the electric side of things, there is AGC fuse. Mine blew once after overhaul. Is fairly straight forward to replace. On the vacuum side of things, if you do not have the hose routing diagrams, I have them somewhere. Let me know what you need.

Inverter, vacuum control - Brittain system
0TreeLemur replied to FlyingDude's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The diagram from the OP shows two air filters connected to the TC100, which made me wonder, because I'm pretty sure that I only have one filter connected. Digging a little bit, I found this in the SMM showing parts & connections for '67 and on. It only shows one filter. Not sure the source of the inconsistency. -
Inverter, vacuum control - Brittain system
0TreeLemur replied to FlyingDude's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
That's the vacuum switch that deactivates the PC system when the pilot pushes on the button on the left yoke handle on my '67C. I suspect that it cuts off vacuum to the TC100 port that feeds vacuum to the actuators, effectively disabling the system. -
Anybody up for a puzzler?
0TreeLemur replied to 0TreeLemur's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
To recap, replaced vacuum pump at annual a couple of weeks ago, and the new vacuum pump failed to get the gauge in the green. Seemed odd because old vacuum pump ran right at 4.5" in cruise. Update: Comparing my vacuum gauge against another showed that one of them was wrong. One of my sons sent me a quality vacuum gauge. Comparing against it showed that my gauge was all fouled up. Luckily @Andy95W sent me a spare regulator an gauge from his aircraft. His gauge is good. Thanks Andy! Replaced the gauge, swapped Andy's newer looking regulator for my old-style (probably, maybe original) regulator and spent hours going over the vacuum system. Found a major leak. The hose connecting the regulator to the TC100 was off at the TC, explaining why my system was struggling to make 5". On the ground, the new vacuum gauge shows: RPM Vacuum (in Hg) 1160 3 1360 4 2400 5 I've not paid much attention to vacuum other than at higher rpm. Is this normal? Here's another puzzle... In flight at 2400 rpm, the vacuum gauge vibrates between 4" and 4.5". Numbers above verified after flight. -
Inverter, vacuum control - Brittain system
carusoam replied to FlyingDude's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Nice work Dude! What makes this TC special is... It is a Brittain TC that works with the Brittain wing leveler... Original (1965) Brittain Wing leveler systems had a separate gyro in the tail to do the work... and an old army surplus TnB was on the panel... So the TC100 is a touch better for two reasons... Keep in mind it’s still only a TC... TCs make crummy back up instruments for flying in IMC... they misbehave as they wear... and the pilot doesn’t know it until it gets bumpy... PP thoughts only not a CFI... Best regards, -a- -

Inverter, vacuum control - Brittain system
0TreeLemur replied to FlyingDude's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
The inverter is a squat black cylinder (2"tall, 3-1/2" dia.) that takes 14VDC and converts it into 400Hz 3-phase AC power, so the TC can use a brushless motor. It is an integral part of the TC100 and connected to the TC by a 18" long shielded cable with I think 6 conductors inside. -
Just bought my first plane 66 m20c

Update, Plan for now is to get the mooney back to mass with me where it will get a panel upgrade, so for now im buying basic setup to get the plane flyable to make the trip home then will be reselling the avionics and upgrading so far this is what ive bought as of today and pricing bettween ebay, barnstromers and here elt-90 $40 grimes wing tip nav lights $159 m20c stainless hardware kit $51 Artificial horizon $128 Vertical speed $66 Narco at50A and ar-850 $58 Suction gauge $40 TC100 rate of turn $100 R.C. Allen RCA11A-8 Directional gyro $65 aerosonic Altimiter ecoder $121 Tach m20c $50 Airspeed $74 m20c cluster $320 stc 50 head unit $645 fuel gph kit $73 KMA24 audio panel $119 Pair of yoke's $234 still have to get fuel pressure/mainifold gauge, battery, radio/com/nav plus anything else i might be forgetting building the panel here and pre wiring it with a quick connector for easy installation and removal of the panel in the future and made a m20c bible anything and everything to do with the plane its in there -
Following this advice from @takair made a huge difference. That 400 Hz whine is gone from my intercom. I don't miss it a bit. I moved the TC100 ground point from a screw just above my knees to one over between the co-pilot's knees- on the tubular steel frame at the bottom of the panel. Noise gone.

I received a reply from her to a question I had about getting a TC100 inspected in early January. Brittain is still not up and running.
