  1. LOL! I wouldn’t feel bad at all. Think of it as payback for all of us who had to do NDB approaches and timed holds at an intersection using 1 VOR. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  2. I have some photos on the site using CameraFi and the Amazon borescope I bought. I know the camera has an adjustable light and if it is set too low, you lose a lot of resolution and the picture becomes grainy. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  3. I just sent an email to the company and got a quick response. I think if you have the time and more importantly the skills, it would be a viable option. Brother Label makers can do a white on black and white on clear. Neither are super professional looking. I would like a solution that can do a true transfer without all of the work involved. 4. I think this is where you are missing the point from the OP. He wants a plane to fly, not do what you are doing. A “handyman” special works for people who can deal with the down time and have the means and skills to bring the plane back. This isn’t one of those owners. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  5. I use the CameraFi software on my Galaxy Tab-A. A lot depends on what camera he is using. It usually defaults to higher resolutions m Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

  7. It is a great sense of accomplishment isn’t it? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  8. Could it be how your TIS-B is set up? There are range rings that will exclude traffic. The NRM, ALL, settings. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

  10. Funny. And I think I know who you are talking about. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  11. You’re getting traffic (up to 8 targets) but not getting TargetTrend on either a 430 or 530. The second to end column on the right is the TargetTrend column. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  12. It does. I flew with a few owners with 345s and when I connected my Garmin Pilot to them, I would get TargetTrend. What I don’t know is if the 430/530 can display TargetTrend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  13. The stuff it is showing, specifically the radar being displayed. Of course, having flown with Jerry in his JetProp he is also “demonstrating” his 323 knot ground speed in multiple spots. Right Jerry [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  14. But then again, you may find an airplane that costs a bit more but the owner clearly took care of it. Harder to find, but worth searching for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  15. Can you be the 12 year old for me and figure out the differences in the Garmin “paks”? I ended up talking to someone at Garmin to figure out the a la carte was cheaper! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  16. I fly with Garmin Pilot showing TargetTrend from the GDL-39 and the L-3 9000 ATAS providing aural warnings based on calculated risk (a lot less false positives). TargetTrend is a nice feature because as you look at a target, you can tell quickly whether you are overtaking a plane. The vector line will come out of the back of the target display. It also shows the relative motion of the plane. You can see that in the picture below. We have some congested airspace here in the northeast as Don does in California. I found that TargetTrend is fine to get a quick understanding what traffic is doing around you. What I do care about is what specific plane is a threat. In this photo, none of these planes were a conflict for me and I never received an aural warning from the L-3. I have however gotten Garmin Pilot warnings which seems to use a different criteria for potential risks. The L-3 has never issued a warning that wasn’t a real threat. 17. Jerry is brushing up his Latin; Quod Erat Demonstrandum means “as demonstrated” give or take a word. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  18. I went through this back and forth on the 750 versus 650. For me, spending an extra $5k didn’t make sense. The 650 for me acts as the place I go to load approaches, load VCALC and change radio frequencies. It used to be the place I went to load flight plans and now that is relegated to the iPad. What the 750 gives you is the ability to do a remote audio panel which you can add voice recognition capability. Both the 650 and 750 can do remote transponders. You can also add in other capabilities like Jerry did with his on-board radar. The weak link is as you pointed out. The electrical system going TU. If it happened in my plane today, I would do a rolling backup using both Aspens and the ESI-500. This leaves whatever battery I have left to power the GPS, transponder and any other items I need (not necessarily what I want). What I am exploring now is the B&C backup alternator that runs off of the now vacant vacuum pad. There is enough juice to run available with that backup to power more essential equipment. For most owners, all of this is overkill. When I retire I hope my jaunts will be a lot more frequent and a lot longer than they are now. Working with a full toy box stinks and when you are forced to fly commercially. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  19. I see the same thing. There is a slight difference in each post. He starts out one with FYI and one one he spell “six” and the other uses the number 6. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  20. I am not sure how the older HSI magnetometers were installed but it will probably be mounted in a wing to an inspection plate with the brass screws Anthony mentioned. You may also find another set of screw heads on an inspection plate out near the wing tips if you have strobes. These will be on both sides. The magnetometer will be closer to mid wing. 21. Based on the previous posts, my guess is it is on the airplane someplace. [emoji2957] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
  22. I just looked over the engine logs. The plane hasn’t flown much in the past 10 years, including a 3 year period where only 0.2 hours was logged. I’d want the cam looked at if it were me. There are also a couple of big gaps in history on the engine (a chunk of time where nothing is logged). I know you are tight on a budget. But we have seen these situations come up over and over again. The money you would like to use to fly the plane may end up being used to keep the plane operational. 23. Not enough paper to print it on and not enough gigabytes to do an online calendar. You’ll just need to enjoy those limited opportunities when they present themselves. [emoji38] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro
  24. Another way to say what Paul said; "would you want to be flying around with your wife in a plane with a bunch of airworthiness squawks?" I wouldn't. I would want to know the complete airworthiness of a 50 year old airplane. There may be discrepancies found which are not considered airworthiness related, but if you are a safety conscious pilot, you may want to address them at some point.
  25. I'm betting its for nitrous.
