  1. What a great opportunity for someone... Sounds like a awesome responsibility and trip. Good luck finding a pilot.
  2. My comment was made with respect to the officer having to make a split second decision while the guy is going for his weapon. There has been questions if there were other options?..My point was that in a given moment would I have done the same? Absolutely. I'm certainly not saying that some other officer could not have done something that would have had a better outcome, but I can say I know how irrational and agitated some people can behave and how quickly things can get escalated. I've thought this over as I watched the interviews. What would I have done? I know the tools he had available. The mind set of this big guy is obvious as he has shown in the strong arm robbery stealing from the store. Let's see, any other options available as the struggle ensues....pepper spray, not hardly going work on somebody that big (I've been sprayed and have used it. I know when it will work). Maybe a baton? nope, how about my cu baton? nope. My hands are busy fighting him off and protecting my weapon side, so no reaching for a Taser or stun gun. Maybe roll your window up and call for back-up, not with his body already reaching inside in a struggling for the gun. The options and decisions were quick and few. We can all agree or agree to disagree..Not a big deal. It's really drifted off point. I almost deleted my post since I knew there would be some pro and con. One thing we all like is flying Mooney aircraft. Let's talk airplanes, but I need a donut first for a retired obese cop..lol
  3. I own a health club..So hopefully not obese. I think I have a few powerlifting records in the books from the old days.
  4. gsxrpilot, Trust me, it's far different when life and death decisions have be made in a fraction of a second..It's always easy to be the person judging what they think the cop should have done based on news reports while sitting in the easy chair the next day. I'm 5'10 and 250 in decent shape. If a 18 yr old 6'4" 290 lb man (not a unarmed teenager wearing his middle school cap and gown as the media likes to depict), toxicology results showed marijuana in his system and was known to have just committed a strong arm robbery just minutes prior. If this man is attempting to get my gun in a confrontational manner while I'm seated in my cruiser, a struggle ensues I can promise you I'm doing whatever it takes to go home that night. Sorry to open the wound up again and go off topic, but if you have not worn the badge and have never had to make those split second decisions please don't judge the actions. I have earned the right. I've been to more than one officer's funeral over the years. Sorry guys, but had to vent. Now back on topic..What about that refund on the food Mr. Mcstealth?
  5. I was a police officer before retiring and deciding to open my health club. After almost 20 yrs of police work I thought I had pretty much heard it all. I was so wrong, I had not seen it all..Our club membership dues are set-up on auto debit from customer accounts. The complaints, bitching, excuses and whining I've heard from people who can't keep money in their accounts on draft day is unreal..some of these are as little as 10 bucks a month. If they don't have the money in there and their dues draft bounces it's amazing how suddenly it becomes our fault, or the banks fault that they did not have the money in there. The draft dates are the same every month. We have about 2000 members...it's amazing how it always seems to be the same names who show up on the returns list. So many customers wanting something for nothing or ridiculous discounted pricing. I'm really thinking about 10 more years and the club will be up for sale and I'll move to the beach...I might get a job as the little guy that puts your umbrella up for you when you come down for vacation.lol As long as I make enough money to maintain my Mooney and do some flying life will be good
  6. Like so many have said..Mission can be defined soooo many different ways. When I fly, the "mission" is to take my mind away from day to day business activities and challenge my mind in different areas. My mission is to make me become a better pilot in a Mooney. Most of my flying is done local 100 miles +/- and the Mooney is far more plane than I need for this, but how much challenge is there in trying to make the perfect approach and landings etc in a simpler plane.. In a Mooney things are complex and much faster then say in a Cherokee 140 or Cessna 150.. while owning these would be cheaper these planes are not so much of a challenge. The longer flights and the options the Mooney affords are just side perks of our great Mooney capabilities.
  7. We will have to enjoy vicariously through the great pictures. Looks beautiful. Mrs.7741M got called into work (Respiratory Therapist) late yesterday for 6pm-6am shift. She actually got off at 7:30 this morning (busy I'm guessing). Thursday I finally got my very own private hanger assigned and got to move out of the community hanger. Still moving "stuff". It only took two years of being on the waiting list. We were ready and had planned heading out early this morning, but I think we will have to pass this year. Next year we can plan further ahead. I'll spend today trying to organize the hanger while she sleeps. Pics look great..Stay warm, learn something, enjoy fellow Mooniacs, eat planty and...oh yeah, I already said stay warm Burrrr. Be safe going home. Tom KDYR
  8. I really like my JPI. On the other hand I had TWO probes fail this year. One CHT and the oil temp. We called JPI and warranty was the main concern from JPI. The install was only about 18 months in with about 100 +/- hours so the answer was yes. JPI was very confident that there must be a bad install connection since two probes were acting up. According to them..."This never happens. you must download your data and send it in before they would consider a warranty or replace the probes"..Yes I had to pay for shipping. They received the data and said, "Well, I guess you do have two bad probes". While I have found the JPI to be a great tool and is now a very important part of my flying experience... I think they will have to change the term, "This never happens, two probes failing". Kind of felt like the burden of proof was put on us. I still would like to upgrade to the 900 or 930, but hope JPI will accept the fact "shitz happens" and its possible for anything mechanical/electrical become defective.
  9. For what it's worth..Mine is a 830, but I had a intermittent problem with digits and on/off display. I crawled under the dash and found that the serial connector screws on the back side had vibrated loose and the serial cable was making a bad connection. Might not have anything to do with your problem, but just worth checking.
  10. PC System, AccuTrak and Stec 30 Alt Hold is a winning combo for a Mooney guy on a budget (like me). Not as fancy and neat as a all in one auto-pilot system, but gets the job done well. My AccuTrak box fits nicely next to the cowl flap open/close rod on the bottom under the dash.
  11. Welcome and nice Mooney. I saw that plane listed for sale at Aircraft Ownership Solutions in Kokomo, IN a few weeks ago. That was a quick sale. Looks like a nice plane and well packaged. Looked like most of the goodies were installed recently earlier in the year. Had the gear up in April, but logs looked like a good solid repair and very complete history and maintenance. Enjoy and welcome to Mooney Space.
  12. Works great as all mentioned..Just keep an eye on it. Also when fuel levels change you will also see it drift to one side or the other requiring you to realign. All in all a great inexpensive system.
  13. Just 379 miles east from me...Looks like a great reason to fly. If we have good weather I'll be in. The airport and hotel look great. Guys with spouses bring them along. Mine likes to look at planes, but after a while she needs a break from airplane talk...lol I would say I'm 90% a go on this.
  14. Mine is a E, but just an idea on annuals mine typically run anywhere between $1800-2200. Most recently the variable being tires, brakes, had a gasket or two, never know..I would say 2K would be an average annual..As they say, your results may vary. Good luck
  15. PTK, Yes I do..retract after every landing. Usually while I'm rolling out.,Trying to save some tread and brake wear.
  16. JPI 830 has been good for me. I will say I had a two bad probes in less than 100 hrs with the unit. First was CHT probe and a few months later was oil temp probe. I spoke with JPI at Osh and they said the CHT issue might be a probe or bad electrical connection. I did not have the oil probe issue until after Osh. During annual a few weeks ago JPI required the my mechanic to download data and send via email before they would do anything since it was rare a probe go bad with just 100 hrs, they really doubted it possible that two would go bad. Apparently, having the oil probe go bad is pretty unheard of...Well, data was sent and they agreed that it had to be bad probes on CHT and oil. JPI sent two new ones and both were replaced at annual and it's been about 10 hrs since replaced and all is okay.
  17. Congrats..and a very sharp looking Mooney
  18. What a great looking plane. Somebody will be getting what looks to be a truly turn-key plane. Love the interior...First class, very classy and clean .
  19. Sounds like a great trip.. Second week of October I'm heading that way. Leaving Dyersburg TN (DYR) to Portsmouth, NH (PSM). Should be some pretty flying. New England is beautiful in October.
  20. I miss the other toys, vette, bikes etc.. I don't miss trying to keep them in tip top shape. I found the upkeep (or thought of upkeep) just made me not want to get the toys out. All are sold off now except my F250 Diesel and 7741M. Less time polishing and more time enjoying. Last count was Vette #6. All sold and I think I'm done.....but on a side note that C7 Z sure looks sweet
  21. Umm, No Amazon reviews. Can't imagine why there are no reviews..For that kind of money I would have to brag about them every single day. Could it be nobody bought any for $500-600 bucks..nahhh.

  23. Dyersburg Avionics (actually located in Caruthersville MO) or Jewell Aviation (Kennett, MO)..Both are good. Caruthersville as done my last two annuals and most of my upgrades. Neither are Mooney Service Centers, but both very capable with Mooney.
  24. Just ordered a set of Condors for my mains yesterday.
