650-w/ remote transponder / GDL88 / Keep one 155 and move it over / Aera 796 (used) / JPI 830 = $21K +/-

My GDL88 and FS210 was $8164. They did have to change my encoder and that was about $250 included in the $8164. Just got the final bill today.

Don't know how true it is, but I've heard the TAWS upgrade is $6-8K. It might be bad info, but seems like that's what I read someplace when researching this. That's crazy..
-
I think I read the TAWS was optional for several thousand dollars add-on. I don't have the remote audio panel, just PMA6000. I hope to get more air time and continue to work with the 750, FlightStream and GDL88 and the different settings. It's not a big deal..It was just a head scratcher thinking the panel mounts costing 14k-18k actually did not have some of the features a my prior $1500 portables had.

I guess it's all good. I sold my 796 to a forum member after getting the GDL88. I primarily used it for traffic and weather. I'm just not use to flying with the 750, GDL88 and Ipad. Always had the 696 or 796 working in conjunction with. The portables all seem to give audible warnings for this or that. Thanks for the feedback. Glad all appears normal.

For those of you flying with GTN 750. Does your 750 give you audio alerts such as "arriving at destination", " Terrain", Switch Tank Reminder or Altitude Reports. I know there is a TAWS option for the GTN 750, but for a standard GTN750 install are you getting audible information like the portable 696 and 796 does? I've called Garmin and did not get much help, checked with my avionics guys and they say it's hooked up right..I've always ran with the GTN750 and a 696 or 796 portable. I guess I got use to the portable call outs and didn't pay much attention that the 750 stays pretty quite. I have not had the GDL-88 in long enough to be in a traffic call out situation yet, but just wondering if your 750s were more audible? Yes, no, sometimes? I've searched the web and other than mention about the TAWS option I did not see much. The manual for the 750 ( while even like a good thick book ) does not really break it down.

If you unload all of those questions at the onset it will be a defensive and controversial buy/seller relationship start to end. As many said, most of that can discovered in the logs and a PPI. If all looks good after the logs you can certainly go to lunch together and casually ask some of the more personal questions. Personally, if you unloaded all that on me right off the bat, I would think, "Wow, this is going to be a high maintenance buyer or prospect". Just my .02

I owe, I owe, I owe, so off to work I go................................... , .. Well it's not that bad, but I do owe on my home mortgage @2%, my F250 @1.5% and plane @4%. Keeping it in the bank isn't going make me a better return on my $. Why not use the banks money with low interest ? On the brighter side I do own my business real estate, my business equipment and some commercial rental property.. I have no children so no college tuitions etc to save for. So instead I just feed that money to 7741M. Opps, Need to recant the % on the home mortgage...hit a typo on the home rate..it's 3.2% , but still a good rate.

I told her we were only staying for three days...She said, " I know, that's all I packed for "..I'm thinking, OMG, glad it was not a week.

Hank, Wick's catalog has them and they are also on EBay (EBay ID is "Marrianna" ) something like that. She does a lot of Mooney stickers. I believe they have the same yoke stickers. Wick's are much less $ than the girl on EBay and very similar.

Marauder, That's the my current set-up less the 696..The pic was about a year ago. Right now my 2nd Nav radio is sent out for repair. Instead of the 696 I use a I-pad as a secondary screen since getting the GDL88 and Flightstream. I'll post more pics when I get my Nav 2 radio back in the stack. I would still like to have a new panel custom water- jet cut from sheet-metal instead of the current plastic. Over the years the changes in the stack configuration has kind of "butchered" up the OEM panel. Hopefully next year I can take it to Aero Comfort and have them redo all the old and faded plastic panels and trim in fabric or whatever Hector called it. No more broken or fragile plastic. As we all know It's expensive and takes time to make 40 yrs old look new..lol

Here are mine that were done by Aero Comfort. I did put the extra grip wrap for hot summer days. Not the best pics, but you get the idea.

I get a few tonight..

Hector at Aero Comfort did mine in super quick turn-around time. I have the clock in the middle and PC control. He worked around it with no problems. He also installed PTT switches. Great work done in two-tone leather..

The proper way to pack an E model.. Everything, but the kitchen sink. Headed to Oshkosh last year. It was just the two of us, but well packed. This is the back seat and hat rack.

Another vote on for the Sidewinder. Easy to use on the Mooney and light-weight. You can also take it with you in the plane.

@Piloto I guess I'm just making up for lost years of technology. When I got my PPL almost 25 yrs ago we had no GPS, no IPad and yes, I spent plenty of time with a scribble pad. At that time I don't even think a kneeboard was overly popular other than commercial and military. If I recall I just used a spiral bound notebook of paper. I guess right now I'm just catching up on what I missed over the years of not flying. Being a gadget guy and having options is appealing. The benefit for me is being able to use the 750 to display route of flight and also using the Ipad to display separate screens or even split screens (ie. traffic, weather or find frequencies). It's also easier to manipulate the IPad on the yoke in turbulent air. I think many guys use a panel mount of some sort and a IPad for additional display. I did not get the Flightstream to be able to quickly modify clearances, flight plans or take notes. I don't care what Garmin says, it is difficult in turbulence to push the right buttons on the touchscreen on the 750, on the other hand it's a great GPS with endless optional display. Typically the GTN will display one screen (the flight plan), the Ipad will used to display traffic and weather...I think Bob uses a similar set up with his 750 and 796. I find the scribble pad option on the Ipad useless and still have a kneeboard for that task. Is it overkill? You bet!, but I like the gadgets.

Next would be the brake relocation. Possibly next year maybe some time with Hector @ Aero Comfort to have the interior plastic redone in the stretched fabric. Bob, I won't even try to keep up and your upgrades..Your plane is truly a gem. Just going to do a little at a time for me.

Picked 41M up today. I did not get much time to work with it, but I did get about 20 minutes. First impression. Great connectivity and easy Bluetooth connection. My avionics shop opted to mount the flightstream box on the hat shelf. I also have a 12v receptacle and plug in for a trickle charger in the same area so it all worked out well. He thought the shelf mount would be a better point for BT connection since there was mention/reference in the installation material about installing and interference with surrounding metal etc. First impression is the BT sync is quick and effortless. I just did a few VFR flight routes transferring from IPad to GTN750 and vice versa. Worked great. I usually fly with IPad mini, I tried using Ipad mini and full size. It was actually much nicer on the full-size. One thing that was pretty cool was that when you have them synced up the GTN-750 has a limited traffic view ring. While the IPad will let you spread the traffic view much wider. It is just as detailed as using a Stratus or GDL 39. Maybe I'm still learning, but it was good to be able to see outside the max traffic circle that the GTN750 displays The traffic it was picking up on the Ipad was the same as the GTN750, but the Ipad shows everything the GTN750, but also all the surrounding traffic well beyond the ring display of the GTN750.. That's the quick and short. I plan to play tomorrow, so this was just a quick initial toying around in about 20 minutes of flight.

Got 41M back home today..The enclosure looks good and the GDL-88 and FS210 was as advertised. It was a little windy and I needed to fuel up so I came straight home, the avionics shop is still in the $6+ range for fuel. I hope to get more time in tomorrow. I should be able to give better feedback about engine temps.

JPI 900 fits in a standard instrument hole and is certified as primary. The 930 is quite a bit bigger and eats more panel space, however, the display is much larger and is easier to read. It really depends how your dash is laid out. I have a 830, I would like the 930 because it does have the fuel option and is bigger. The 900 is nice, but that's a lot of information in a small box. JPI did have some rebates going.

GDL88 done as well as the FS210. The shop had some software updates to finish on my GTN750. I've spent time this week practicing with the Garmin Pilot App. I'll be picking it up tomorrow. Pirep soon to follow.

Getting finished up with the GDL88 / FlightStream and cowl enclosure. Makes a big difference I think. Everything should line up nice and tight after rivets and upper/lower cowls are screwed back on. Just an idea of how it will look. Obviously we did the sandwich route.

I'm particular about my footwear when I fly. I have one pair of sneakers that are thin runner style sole..They are what I refer to as my "red flying shoes". Call ne strange I know. I always have better landings and fly better when I wear my special flying Nikes on. Call me superstitious, but I try to never fly without them on. lol I guess if I'm only superstitious about my shoes it's not a bad thing..It could be worse like some other piece of clothing..

About 65 hrs.. Went from PPL just renting to a Cherokee 140 to Mooney. Good luck
