  1. Still winter here! Thank God I could fly Ned's Mooney yesterday. I am really fed up! Yves
  2. My mother tongue is French. When I did the trip to California 2 months ago, controllers had trouble with the way I say "Mooney". I did end up at some point flying an experimental plane according to them... but do not recall which one. Yves
  3. Contact you credit card office. Tell them this expense was not authorized. They will revert it back. Yves
  4. Looking for the truth? Watch this... (Really watch it...) Yves
  5. Maybe it wasn't flying for 7 hours... maybe it floated for 7 hours... Yves
  6. If that is the case, if this data did not contain coordinates, it will be very difficult to locate it. As I type this, I got this one which explains that the satellite angle of reception is mesured (Inmarsat info): http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/17/world/asia/satellite-signals-plane-identity-flight-370/index.html?iid=article_sidebar Yves
  7. This text from CNN: For days, we've been talking about the last transponder signal the plane sent. And now it appears another system that sends data about the plane, the Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System, was shut off, too. Authorities say the last transmission from that system came early in the flight, at 1:07 a.m. But they say they don't know exactly when the system was shut down, as the next transmission wasn't due until 1:37 a.m. Someone inside the cockpit, believed to be the co-pilot, made the plane's last verbal communication with air-traffic controllers at 1:19 a.m., saying, "All right, good night." The transponder was then switched off at 1:21 a.m., authorities say, and all civilian radar lost contact with the plane altogether about 1:30 a.m. Military radar last detected the plane at 2:15 a.m. off Malaysia's west coast, hundreds of miles off-course. And at 8:11 a.m., more than seven hours after takeoff, a satellite made the last electronic connection, known as a "handshake," with the plane. If the ACARS is off, what system is this handshake coming from? Yves
  8. I am really fed up. It is still -14 degrees Celcius here. Punxsutawney Phil was right! Yves
  9. I am looking back at the original post by José on March 9th. When I read it first I thought that he had vivid imagination and that the odds of this being what happened were kind of remote. As the story unfolds, I see more and more ressemblance with the hypothetical scenario José came up with. Ataboy José I have been following this event out of curiosity and feel very sad for the families and people involved. Too bad we cannot join the search with our mooneys... I would. Yves
  10. Need to shovel snow around the airplane again... and guess what? Now I need to clear snow from two Mooneys... Ned is away and I will relocate his aircraft for him. Yves
  11. From their last press release: While not officially exhibiting at Sun 'n Fun, Dr. Chen and the leadership team from Mooney will be in attendance at the event. A special reception for invited guests will be held on Friday, April 4th. Yves
  12. If the radio fails to transmit due to an equipment failure (which could have been the case), wouldn't you cover your butt by squawking 7600? Yves
  13. What about sqawking 7600... this would definitely get the controller attention right? You could not reach him so this is a comm failure. Yves
  14. Thanks a lot Mike for preparing this. Are you coming again this year? Yves
  15. I am wondering if this would be considered criminal behavior? Is the data itself proprietary? Yves
  16. FYI, in canada, VFR maps are updated once a year. The CFS (Canada flight supplement) is good for 56 days, so are the IFR plates and IFR maps IIRC. Yves
  17. When doing my IFR training I did screw up once on a hold entry... I found this free app called NavTutor that helps figure that out... Yves
  18. I would be interested in a set too however... I always ask.... how much is it going to cost? With the large number of people interested, I guess this shall bring the price down right? Yves
  19. ANY state have less taxes than Quebec. In my tax bracket, income taxes are between 40% and 50%. After you gave half of your income, when you go buy a bag of chips, there is a 15% tax added on top of this. There is not only the weather we can complain about over here. Yves
  20. Our son lives near L.A. This is one of the reasons we picked Arizona first (close enough but not too close). 2 1/2 hours flight and we are there. About 6 hours driving for him... except if he gets his pilot license one day. Housing prices is also a factor. I did mentioned Nevada to my wife. She declined... worries about me spending it all in the casinos! Yves
  21. Sorry Don but the wife had this criteria: No tornado risk... I know that Texas has a vibrant software industry. I went to Austin while I was on IBM Rational staff and this lab was very impressing. Yves
  22. Each time me and the wife go south, we always come to the conclusion that we are fed up with the Canadian winters and wish we could move where the sun shines more often than not shine. Our trip to visit our son who is in California 1 1/2 month ago really nailed the last one in the coffin ... we have committed to do it within the next two years... Where do we want to go? First choice: Arizona Second choice: Southern California If you guys see any similar jobs in one of these two areas, howler at me! My specialty: Software Test Automation Development Sorry for the spam! Yves
  23. Glad you made it in one piece Aaron. Flightaware shows you at 19K then a fast drop and nothing more after. Happy wedding. Yves
  24. He is probably on the beach, sipping a Margarita, with girls in bikini all around...not caring much about our fears... Yves
  25. If I recall right winds were 20G28 and slowly moved from easterly to southerly during the day making it 90 degrees crosswind at some point. Conditions were more an issue up in the air, it was pretty rough up there. As I would approach the landing things would settle a bit. The runway has been sanded but kind of lightly. If they would sand too much, the dark color of sand would accentuate the thaw cycle. I took about 2000 feet to land but they had 3200 feet so all was fine. Another Mooney came later during the day.
