As posted in another MS thread my grandson and I plan to make a grand, if too quick, tour of the West before we return to MA & NC. Here are the airports over 5000' in elevation that we'll be landing at. All have plenty of runway to offset a lack of performance. I'd be interested in any local pireps on specific fields, particularity KMMH.. KCUT Custer Co. SD (Mt Rushmore) 5602' elev; 5500' r'way KCOD Yellowstone RGNL WY 5102 8200 KWYS Yellowstone (West) MT 6649 8400 KMMH Mammoth Yosemite CA 7135 7000 in the shadow of high peaks to the West KTPH Tonopah NV 5430 7100 KCDC Cedar City RGNL 5622 8600 KCEZ Cortez CO 5918 7200 KSAF Santa FE NM 6345 8300

3100 Autopilot - S-TEC Autopilot - Program Details
Bob_Belville replied to Barry LeBlanc's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
According to my avionics shop who talked to Genesys today, it’s still possible that the Mooney STC might still happen in 2019. If you have a STEC in a Mooney and are in the market for the 3100 please let me know. Preferably by pm rather than on the public forum. If your MS identity does not include your name and tail # please include same. I will compile and get the info into management’s hands. I believe there has to be more interest than Genesys sales has turned up. I would really appreciate the word getting to your Mooney/STEC friends who do not do forums. I suspect there are scores, probably hundreds, of prospects out there. Time is of the essence. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk- 104 replies

True. This makes it perfect in that SiriusXM is muted with any other input to the audio panel and I can turn off the alert when you're on the ground and the audio panel lights tells you the status off the alert.

Avionics Shop Keeps Removed Equipment

There is little in life that's more expensive than a bargain airplane. Folks seldom heed the advise often offered here to buy the best example of the make and model you're shopping for. Pay a fair price for it. Still no guarantee but the odds are several times better.

I would confirm that the fuel coming into the cabin is from a tank leak. It is very common for the fuel sender plate to leak directly into the cabin in the side wall be low the door (And the same location on the pilot side). An easy, inexpensive fix.

FS: SOLD Nose Dragger electric aircraft tug SOLD
Bob_Belville replied to peter's topic in Avionics / Parts Classifieds
+1 for the nose dragger dragger. I bought my 24V model from a pilot on the field who had sold his plane several years earlier. The battery was bad so I put two old Concorde 12 V batteries in series. It's been working great for about 6 years. I also bypassed the speed control to run it at top speed only which is not very fast. -
need landing light lens
Bob_Belville replied to Bob_Belville's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
That would be fantastic, David. Tamara @AGL Aviation says we can use her toaster oven... Between Lynn's and my hangar we should have any tools and supplies we need. -
need landing light lens
Bob_Belville replied to Bob_Belville's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Yeah, I remember at least 1 DIY thread... I have more than one old lenses to use as a form. They're cracked at the holes which won't affect the forming. I can do it myself if it comes to that. -
LASAR is showing the lens for pre J landing light as unavailable. I haven't had @AGL Aviationcheck with Mooney yet but I wonder if there's another resource? Maybe one of youse guys who've formed plexi in the wife's oven would like to make me a couple? I can trim, bevel, and drill...

I landed at Dulles years ago, 200 & 1/2. Flew down final as fast as I could go, no flaps gear up (the runway was 2 miles long). As I touched down the tower sent a Eastern jet behind me around. When I cleared the runway I tried to apologize but the tower was very nice, he blamed the Easter captain for not slowing as instructed. In the '80s I used Meigs many times. Midway was the IFR alternate. Both were great.

Genesys has my PO and I have an October slot at Twin Lakes Avionics for the Aspen Max upgrade and the 3100 install. I sure hope it happens. Jump on in, the water's fine.- 104 replies

I talked to Brendon Hendrickson the airport manager at KCUT. They have a camping area on the field and we'll have access to the pilot lounge. There's also a local car rental company that will bring a car out to the field. We plan to visit Mt. Rushmore. There's no instrument approaches though they're working on one. My route is still in flux. Last night Gorilla pointed out that we're passing near his home drome and invited us to stop by so I moved our OK stop to KELK.

Is your Aspen version 2.9 or 2.9.0.1? The later version has a fix for a conflict that might be the issue. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Worked for me... Sometimes when we cut to paste we include a leading space or invisible trailing carriage return or new line that corrupts the address. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk -
Airventure parking GAP vs VAP
Bob_Belville replied to Marty71112's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Nancy has been a good sport to go with me to AirVenture and Sun 'n Fun but she draws the line at camping. This year she's happily giving up her spot to our 17 year old grandson so I will get to stay on the field and swap tales with @gsxrpilotet al. I have not slept on the ground since Truman was president so one week may be enough to scratch my itch, we'll see. -
Someone ought to grill Snopes about that etymology before it becomes documented history.

In my E, and your F, 30 nm out ought to be enough to get from 10000 to pattern altitude. There’s no magic trick. I’m almost always on an IFR flight so at 30nm out I’m asking ATC “...looking for lower “. This alerts ATC that I’m looking for a longish descent and not a “slam dunk “. (My Vge limit is 107 kias and Vfe is lower than that so getting dirty is not a practical option.) As Paul pointed out we want to cash in the energy reserves we built climbing so trim to red line minus a little bit and let the big dog eat. I don’t spend time worrying about holding 500 fpm or any other set rate of descent. Only in moderate turbulence would I slow to the green arc and reduce power. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Airventure parking GAP vs VAP
Bob_Belville replied to Marty71112's topic in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)
Yeah, I've parked in the North 40 with the Mooney Caravan the last 3 years (and paid for camping even though my real trooper co-pilot draws the line at camping) - it was always nice until our folks head out and are replaced by random lesser make and models. So last year on Tuesday I moved down to Vintage which was a super location, much more convenient to get around. I had to lobby with the volunteers doing the parking or I'd have been down in the South 40 which still might still get better shuttle service than North 40. -

I think this version hits every state west of the Mississippi except OK, TX which I’ve already visited many times. Fewer terrain challenges and similar distance. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
