  1. After reviewing information provided on my earlier post about adding an Auto Pilot to my M20A with M20E Wing and M20J Tail along with information provided by a FAA Engineer it might be fairly easy to add an auto pilot out of a similar model Mooney utilizing excerpts from a STC along with my own documentation for a Field Approval. S-Tec will not provide any information since they do not have a STC for a M20A. If anyone has any photos of a S-Tec System 30 or 50 installed in a M20B, C, D, or E it would be helpful. I have found a system out of an early M20E but there is no documentation. The brackets, servos and harnesses are included but I would like to see where and how the system is installed if possible. Specifically the Roll Servo mounting and connections and the Pitch Servo Mounting and connections and location. If any one can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Carl
  2. I have my M20K Encore at the shop for a GFC500 install with pitch trim and yaw damper. Sounds like they've run into a hiccough regarding the yaw damper. This Encore came from the factory with an S-TEC yaw damper (see original W&B sheet below). I found a reference from AOPA mentioning “Except for the addition of an S-Tec yaw damper/rudder trim system — greatly appreciated in those long climbs to the flight levels, the Encore's flight control system is pretty much unchanged from the 252.” The avionics shop mentioned: Mooney with electric rudder trim with third party YD are to typically work as independent systems together in the flight regime. Your plane however was rigged somehow when the STEC was installed they removed the factory rudder trim motor and rigged the STEC YD trim pot to the rudder indicator assuming to replace the rudder trim system factory installed. STEC has no provision for this and you are now missing the original factory rudder trim motor and rocker switch. GFC500 goes into these Mooneys with rudder trim no problem and they remain separated systems that is why there are no special instructions in the installation for doing anything with the Mooney rudder trim. The issue still arises that the Garmin YD does not operate in this way and will not act as your rudder trim and your YD. We can discuss more tomorrow at the office but options right now are no electric trim or add the Mooney rudder trim motor and switch to the aircraft. Are there any Encore pilots out there with the GFC500 and yaw damper? How did you address this? Is it accurate that I'd need to reinstall a Mooney rudder trim motor in order to install the GFC500? Currently I have a rotary knob for rudder trim L/R and below that a 3 position switch for On/Auto/Off for yaw damper. Verified on old pictures, came from the factory with same. Thanks, Marc.
  3. A couple years ago I installed an Avidyne IFD550 and an overall panel upgrade. I have been very happy with the IFD550, although I have only used it for VFR since I have never gotten it to work correctly with the Stec 60-2 AutoPilot. That's another subject we can discuss some time. My problem now is that the IFD has simply failed. I have attached two short videos. I last flew the plane on 5/29/2020 since my annual expired at the end of May, but I go out every couple weeks and run the engine for about 15 to 20 minutes. I have delayed starting on my annual because my long time AP had a stroke last year, and I am trying to work with another AP that will come to the Warsaw airport and work with me. I have the guy lined up and he will allow me to perform an assisted annual, but we just have not started on it yet due to scheduling (both his and mine). Having said all that, I went out to the hangar yesterday evening and pulled the plane out for it's 15 minute run on the tarmac and the IFD would not boot up. I think the video will explain. There was a difference if the engine was running or not??? Also, something that is not shown in the video is that the system voltage is running at 13.9 volts, whereas past JPI data shows it consistent at 14.2 +/- .1 volts. The IFD acts "better" if the engine is off and the ship voltage is setting at 11.9 Please watch the short videos, the 5964 is engine off, 5965 engine running Thanks, -mark IMG_5964.MOV IMG_5965.MOV
  4. Hi, As I was locating the original 19 owners that signed up for the STC kick off to inform them of the start date, the owners dwindle down to 8 commitments. I need 8 to 10 committed owners to step up with a non-reversible purchase order to maintain the STC opportunity date. This window will close on June 30th. The STC date would be pushed out indefinitely if I can not locate the additional 8 to 10 owners. If you can call your fellow Mooney owner and ask them to consider the program below. My cell phone is answered to 10PM every night till June 30th. Please call if you have any questions. Genesys Aerosystems is looking for 8- 10 owners to either upgrade or installs a new S-TEC 3100 installation. We would need a commitment total of 15 model owners to proceed with the STC. The commitment would be in the form of a purchase order to a Genesys Authorized Installation Center. Genesys Aerosystems S-TEC 3100 is a fully featured, attitude-based autopilot that gives you a list of workload-reducing and safety-enhancing capabilities that were previously unavailable on aftermarket autopilots. Compatible with advanced digital sources & EFIS displays from Garmin, Aspen and others, the S-TEC 3100 delivers unmatched features and benefits: Precise, digital flight control for every phase of flight 2-axis (3-axis option on some models) Automatic Trim included Envelope Protection/Alerting Straight and Level Recovery Precision Approaches/Missed Approaches Indicated Airspeed Hold Altitude Pre-select Moreover, much more! For the owners who currently have an S-TEC autopilot installed, the upgrade price will depend on the equipment already installed. The 3100 AP would be an outstanding bargain to get the benefits of a fully integrated digital autopilot, especially considering the additional safety features which it will bring. Upgrades start at $9,995 retail. For the owners who currently do not have an S-TEC autopilot installed. The 2-axis S-TEC 3100 is $19,995 retail for a new digital flight control system, which includes altitude hold, auto trim and altitude pre-select, as well as new features such as envelope protection and straight and level mode. The 3-axis version adds Yaw Damper and is $24,995 retail. Genesys Aerosystems S-TEC autopilot STC process is determined by which model owners express interest. The most significant benefit to submitting a purchase order (early) is that we will extend the 2-year warranty to 3 years for all new parts from the factory (new installs and new controllers/servos). Also, we are offering a 2-year warranty on any currently installed S-TEC servos. No matter how old they are. The extended warranty offer is only valid until we gain the STC. Once that occurs, the regular warranty period will be offered. 7. This is a factory fresh S-Tex ST-901 unit, p/n 03976, with an 8130. It was repaired by S-Tec and has not been used or installed since. My understanding is that they replaced both circuit boards in the unit. It comes with (appears to be new) panel mounted annunciator, p/n 03975, that switches between heading and GPSS mode. It also comes with the connectors. It is setup for the King KCS 55A. Will sell complete for $950 plus shippingCall or text Brian at 319-560-4910 or email me at brianweber@ Foxtrot Mike Tango Charlie Sierra dot com with questions or for more info. I know this is my first post on Mooneyspace which might make a prospective buyer nervous but I'm much more active on Beechtalk and Piperforum. I have 100% positive feedback on eBay for hundreds of motorcycle and airplane parts. My tail numbers are N69PS and N201JR.
  8. My 1967 M20F currently has a working PC system. Over the years I have added Accu-Flite heading-hold, and Altitude hold. It all works but I am getting an irrational urge to upgrade to a more modern system. Perhaps an S-Tec 55X. I would be interested to hear the experience of others who have gone this route. I would be particularly grateful if someone would bring me back to my senses and talk me out of this.
