  1. Dan old friend, speedy recovery from the surgery(?)! I'll see you at KOSH but Nancy's wimped out in favor of our grandson, Ben Metzger, whom I will pick up at 6B6.
  2. Last call for the clinic. I'm ordering (very nice) Tshirts Monday... time for all procrastinators to step up. Go to the links above to register, pay, book your hotel room.
  3. I assume the mechanic has verified that the throttle travel goes to the stop. You should be seeing close to 18 gph FF on take off at sea level. If that's not happening it would increase EGTs as Savvy (probably Paul @kortopates ) pointed out. Injectors checked? Plugs checked for resistance? Champions or Tempest? I know they're nearly new but... 100F drop on MAG check is a little on the high side. When was the fuel servo last overhauled? If the simple stuff is okay it is a likely culprit. Mechanic should disconnect the throttle linkage and verify the control level moves freely stop to stop. I don't think servos are field serviceable. ICBW. My comments are based on personal experience and discussions with @AGL Aviation. Paul/Savvy has forgotten more than I know...
  4. Nancy and I will be there. Lynn Mace and I were at the first one 3 years ago but this year looks to be much bigger with a lot of great presenters.
  5. Methinks some here might be beer snobs. (I had a business partner years ago who sipped beer all day long out on his fishing yacht. Someone asked him as a beer expert what his favorite was. His ready reply: "The worst I ever had was pretty good.")
  6. My hangar neighbor has had a 3100 in his Cherokee 6 for several months. He also has a GTN 750 and an Aspen. The issue he had has been with the Aspen which apparently needs updating to provide all the info to the 3100 to take advantage of the newer features like alt pre-select. I think he is very happy with the STEC itself. Wayne says he's been told the Aspen has received so many MAX upgrade orders that getting the software updated is being delayed.
  7. Bumping this thread. The Hickory Clinic is getting close. We now have 27 pilots (including at least 7 first timers) signed up for the June 14-16 KHKY clinic. If you've been thinking about participating now would be a good time to register! The order for T-Shirts will need to be sent in soon. Look for links to registration and hotel here: http://www.mooneycaravan.com/training/mid-atlantic And for first timers I'll point out that registration for Caravan (MSN-OSH) and hotel in Madison WI can be done here: http://www.mooneycaravan.com/registration
  8. You mean: @Doug Tellef
  9. Well, if several of you think the longer arm gives more authority and since Prof. Bolt is not giving us the answer I will have to find my copy of “Stick and Rudder” and refresh my memory of what struck me as counterintuitive when I read it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  10. Where's our resident mathematician? @aviatoreb
  11. I seem to remember Wolfgang Langewiesche (Stick and Rudder) teaching that the shorter fuselage made the vertical stabilizer and the rudder more effective.
  12. Are you sure of the double cost? All in? Apples to apples re functionalities? Including installing servos in the case of TT? FWIW, my STEC pitch servo has worked flawlessly for over 20 years. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  13. I have preordered, and paid for, the Max upgrade for my Aspen and have the PO in the queue for the upgrade from my STEC 50 to the 3100. The 3100 will go at the bottom of the center stack. Slam dunk in my opinion. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  14. Exactly Mike. The 64 gallon add on bladders is turning out to be one of my favorite buys.
  15. Yeah, if you call those prices a $3 premium, the 15 gallons minimum costs an extra $45. To save a $20 facility fee. I will skip the fuel.
  16. I've been a fan of Twin Lakes for the 7 years I've had this Mooney. Probably not the cheapest and they're out into about November for major installs... but what they do is done right. OTOH the runway at 8A7 continues to deteriorate which is sad.
  17. Thanks! Actually $62.50 for a night is not bad considering the prime location.
  18. MDW FBOs - Atlantic vs. Signature?
  19. It's been almost 30 years since I've flown into Chicago so I assume things might be different. Back then I used Meigs with Midway as the IFR backup. Good memories. On the way to AirVenture this year my copilot and grandson from MA is interested in working in a campus visit to DePaul while we're in the neighborhood. Meigs would have been great with the University a few miles north... DePaul is a couple of miles south of Wrigley Field. Suggestions?
  20. I'll put my porn pics up against almost anyone here, e.g. @Marauder's...
  21. And there will be at least 1 example of SabreCowl Gen 1 parked in the Caravan North 40 field.
  22. Only certain rocks are older than I am but when I returned to flying in 2011 I dug out 2 H10-30 headsets that I had had from the '70s. DC refurbished them to better than new condition for about $100. They apologized for charging me but they were 30 years out of warranty...
  23. Who needs such grief? Stick with David Clark, Worcester MA, USA. Built for profession pilots to be practically indestructible. A company that takes care of its customers. In fact one of the very best companies I've ever dealt with. https://www.davidclarkcompany.com/
  24. Per my checklist, I use 1800 RPM for MAG check but bump throttle up to 2000 for prop cycling. I'm sure Cody is right that the real factor is oil pressure though I haven't carefully noted how much 1800 RPM to 2000 RPM raises OP. IO360 not your O360.
