  1. Your seeing the power of the PPI... Painful as it seems, the process is actually working for you. One thing I did was to write into the contract that any items that were found to be Airworthiness issues was repaired at the owners expense. If he chooses not to repair those items, he's to pay for the PPI as well as return all earnest money. That clause worked in my favor to the tune of $4K.
  2. I'd check the logbooks to see of Modworks installed the windshield. As was mentioned earlier, they used bondo like prodcuts extensively around the windshield.
  3. Comparing any retractable gear plane to a fixed gear trainer is really apples to oranges. One is designed to withstand pilots that prang it onto the runway and one isn't. You could also carry this discussion to military aircraft like F18 vs. F16. The F18 is designed to take some seriously hard carrier landings and the F16... not so much.
  4. I'm flying into Appleton on Saturday and will be there all week. Plan on heading out on Saturday.
  5. I remember one time flying a Cherokee 180 the airspeed stopped at around 65 knots. I continued the flight. On landing, I just maintained the same sight picture on landing and landed without any issues. Actually one of my better landings. Turned out to be just a bug in the pitot.
  6. The problem with the F35 is that it's too advanced. We all know that all it takes to beat the F16 is a low and slow 150...
  7. Bob, Do you think that's because the additional gallon was left in each tank when drained as unusable fuel?
  8. Guys - Anybody that's in the DFW area planning on flying to KGGG this weekend? If so, I'd love to bum a ride so I can pick up my plane.
  9. ~$1k+ plus agreed too repairs.
  10. After looking at these pictures I see why mine didn't work. My carpet go up much closer to the J-bar and around each side. I'd probably have to trim the carpet all the way back to where you did to allow the J-Bar to latch.
  11. That's the same boot that Don Maxwell couldn't get to work... Maybe next time you see Don, you can provide a few tips.
  12. I purchased a leather boot from Comfort Aero as part of my interior redo and it never fit right. I ended up returning it and Don Maxwell installed a new black cloth one. Works great and still looks good. Not much of the boot shows anyway so going with a leather one I felt really wasn't worth it.
  13. Aviators have been tapping on gauges since the beginning of flight. Now you know why. I'd keep on tapping... I know I do.
  14. For me it works out to be right at a 3:1 ratio... Driving to flying time.
  15. My thoughts exactly. If you want to purchase any model of Mooney that's been maintained correctly and flown regularly with decent avionics you'll spend north of $40K. Realistically, if your purchase budget isn't at least $40K with a $8k reserve for year one deferred maintenance items, you need to look at other makes. As stated earlier, a first time aircraft owner has no business purchasing a project plane and I believe a M20C that's not at least $40K is just that... a project.
  16. The biggest thing I've found is that be willing/flexible in your schedule to wait out the weather. If you have to land prior to your destination, look at it as an opportunity to learn/explore the city you're stranded. Look at it as an opportunity, not an inconvenience. Last year on our way up to Oshkosh, we ended up spending two days in Jefferson City. We left after two day's with new friends and fantastic memories. Life is an adventure so enjoy the trip.
  17. So last year there was several organized group functions, dinners, etc. Anyone have a list of Mooney gatherings?
  18. Can't agree more. Outside of my engine monitor, it was by far the best investment I've made.
  19. I personally use two Mechanics. I have a quality on-field A&P that takes care of the ad hoc squawks that come up during the year. He also does my annuals every other year. I also use Don Maxwell (MSC) for every other annual to make sure that the other A&P didn't miss any Mooney specific issues. Don also handles any gear or rigging issues.
  20. Not everyone has the time, skill and/or desire it would take to redo their interiors. I've seen several that did attempt the DIY route and result was way below their expectations. Those folks were out the $3k and and brand new very amateur looking interior. Some of us realize that and choose to go the professional route. That doesn't mean we have poor judgement nor was the decision emotionally driven.
  21. Value is a personal thing... I guess you can always go down to Walmart and get a few cans of Krylon paint and some of their finest vinyl seat covers and call it a day.
  22. Check out my gallery. I had Aero Comfort do my complete interior about a year ago. They do fantastic work and couldn't be happier with it. Plan on spending $12AMU for a turnkey or $10AMU if you remove and install it yourself.
